No Signals Posted January 10, 2008 Share Posted January 10, 2008 Anyone know if there was a specific practise of painting military vehicles with the white strips on bumpers etc, as was put on civvy vehicles in the blackout? Jessie The Jeep Posted January 10, 2008 Share Posted January 10, 2008 I've got pictures of USAAF vehicles on the 100th BG airbase that have white tips to the bumpers, but there are also vehicles on the same base without the markings. Not sure of the year of the various pics. One of the pics shows one of the articulated tankers that fuelled up the bombers. Since these appeared to spend all their time going from the base fuel dump to the bombers, I can't see them being used off base, so I don't believe it was a marking specifically to aid visibility on civil roads.
