Chris Hall
I think they are pre war J tanks that may have have found their way onto WD/Cs during the war. The ones I’ve seen also have dents in the front from what I can only guess as being fitted to later tele fork models. Perhaps someone with a J can confirm that’s what they are. Chris Hall
The metal work on the lamp is fine, the electrics are modern and the reflector is different. You should be able to clips separately, or you used to. The front brake has the anchor mounted in the speedo gearbox hole. It should be on that bracket on the forks that you see in your photo. You may need quite a few missing parts to correct both the speedo drive and the brake cable anchor/bracket. The alloy brake plate also looks odd, not the usual plate. Where the anchor plate slots up into the fork is also wrong. It shows a bolt but it should be a riveted stud. I’ve replaced the worn studs in the past so it’s a simple fix. Chris Hall
Damper knobs were available NOS from Burton Bike bits.
Ron
Your brake plate is an aluminum plate as fitted to early WD/C's and probably pre war. Ron Edited November 5, 2020 by Ron
Chris Hall
Although it’s ally, it’s not the correct WD/C item. It’s likely not even Royal Enfield.
Chris Hall
Here’s one of Jan’s photos of a rear plate (same as front without the speedo hole drilled).
Chris Hall
Just looking at the original plate again, it looks like the brake bolt I thought was in the speedo hole is in fact the fixed brake pivot. It looks like this plate is a rear from another manufacturer.
Ron
I obviously didn't swivel my head enough Chris. Here's the NOS front plate that I acquired. Ron Edited November 5, 2020 by Ron
Chris Hall
That’s an interesting one Ron as it has no raised lip around the edge.
Ron
Well the picture I posted was from Hitchcocks website. They said they only had two of them, but the one they sent me does have the lip. You can see it on my C in my previous picture post above. Phew!! Ron
rewdco
The front brake plate comes from a post war "Model G" I'm afraid to say... 😐 Edited November 5, 2020 by rewdco
Ron
And the previous owner did make a lash up of fitting it! Ron
Chris Hall
There’s a chance then that the front wheel is all Model G with no speedo gear thread to even fit a speedo gear.
Chris Hall
The more we dig, the less I think this bike was worth the value asked on eBay.

rewdco
This is definitely the correct center stand for a WD/C frame. The WD/CO had a rear stand instead of a center stand, so "WD/C-only". Did you find the picture on the War Department website? The owner of that business deceased a couple of years ago, and the website has never been changed or deleted. Don't think you will be able to buy one of these stands anymore... 😐

rewdco
It looks as if the gearbox bottom lug has been fitted to the wrong stud / hole, or am I so mistaken?
Chris Hall
Yes, defo wrong! You can’t drain the oil in that configuration. Also, the engine plates are not drilled for the WD/C centre stand spring posts or the pivots for the levers. Easily fixed with the correct dimensions and studs. The foot brake stop has also sheared off and been replaced with some bent steel and a bolt. That could be fixed by welding on a replacement piece. This poor bike really does need some saving. Ron
We have discussed this before. Apparently these center stands were prone to break, plus it was quite awkward to heave the bike up onto it's stand, so a shorter one was produced (Although they seem to have kept the same part number). I can't remember if we decided when the mod took place. I have one of the shorter stands on my WD/C Apart from the stand itself (which are quite hard to find) Hitchcocks usually have the toggles and springs. Chris Hall
It was a few years ago now Ron, my C had the big stand with a braze repair to one side where it had cracked. I did find a couple of NOS stands with the stores label a few years ago which I literally fell over.
