Great War truck
I like that. I would be digging ditches all over the place if I had one of those. Probably really annoy my neighbours though.
Bob Grundy
I have had three of them, one from Preston Issac and the other two direct from the MoD back in the 1990's, I think they were c.£380 each. Tried out one of them, quite a messy operation but the speed of digging was impressive.
ploughman
I used to use them in the RE's No way you could conceal them when working at full revs with an enormous flame out the exhaust. I was very popular with the infantry units as it save them digging trenches and it gave them something to warm their hands on at midnight on Salisbury plain in mid February. Need deep pockets to keep the Petrol tank filled though 15 gallons an hour at working revs. I didn't think it made too much of a mess, if you keep the conveyor speed down the spoil gets dumped on the edge of the trench. However if someone messed you about placing their trench and wasn't very helpful the conveyor got turned up to full speed and spread the spoil everywhere. Fill that trench back in now if you can.
