militant-nick Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 Hello all, Found this photo of my late grandpa Alan Wormald spraying a truck at RAF Marham in 1948, a CMP truck of some sort? Not seen that body on one either-small workshop body perhaps? Also, anyone know what the 'G.587' refers to - building number? The text on the photo & below it reads; MAR.G.587 13-5-48// SPRAYING BAY IN USE RAF MARHAM 1948 ALAN Regards Quote
REME 245 Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 Bedford MW and probably going back to blue in 1948. Quote
militant-nick Posted July 17, 2016 Author Posted July 17, 2016 Thanks both, found this similar vehicle based on that info - second post down (some excellent photos also on Richards two links above it) http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?10507-Bedford-MW-s-in-service-gallery/page7 Quote
10FM68 Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 I think the "Mar G-587" will be the negative reference number. That would suggest it was photographed by the official station photographers' shop. 10 68 Quote

10FM68 Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Just a thought, but, given that your grandfather was trained at RAF Yatesbury, which was a signals school, then I suggest that he probably served in the signals wing at RAF Marham, in which case the box-body on the back of the Bedford is most likely a radio version rather than a workshop. Just a thought and, as a former "brown job", I'm no expert in RAF matters. 10 68 Quote
Runflat Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 The body is a type 'Signals E' - some info here: http://summerof44.org.uk/OldSite/Menu/Vehicles/BedMWV.htm Quote

militant-nick Posted July 18, 2016 Author Posted July 18, 2016 I'll now have to dig out & post the photo of my other grandpa who served in the Royal Signals during WW2; there's one photo that looks similar to a Bedford oxc & hard bodied caravan type trailer. Quote
