Having trouble getting insurance cover, any suggestions?

HRE

Question

I have built a replica of a WW1 tricar ammunition carrier and Im having huge problems getting insurance to use it at displays ( just driven in the arena realy). Ive already got PLI cover as a static display but it seems a bit pointless to have a vehicle and only be able to look at it. Does anyone know of an insurance company that wont run screaming for the hills as soon as they find out its not a road legal vehicle? Any suggestions would be very welcome. Banging my head against brick walls is starting to hurt!

this is the vehicle in question.

The difference here is that agricultural land is private whereas a showground is public and therefor is subject to the Road Traffic laws. If the vehicle is not road legal I very much doubt that the vehicle can be insured for the purpose which you require.

I insure a crawler tractor for show, ploughing matches, etc. with Cherished Car Insurance. It is not registered just identified by serial number on the policy.

However I enquired about covering my living van the response was initially positive but when I said it was a scratch built van on an old chassis they didn't want to know. The cover provided for a living van wasn't that attractive anyway; as for road risks the trailer is covered by the towing vehicle and theft only covered if van is secured like chained down or in a shed.

However the Tricar doesn't look too lethal; you could try to get a custom/show motor bike policy.
