Wheelnuts

After reading Snapper's unfriendly neighbours topic I remembered something which happened last week.

I took the Dodge to a village fair when I spotted a loose wheelnut, It wasn't even touching the wheel anymore so I tightened it.

Offcourse I checked the others.

 

Well, 18!!!! of the 20 weren't tightened!!!!

No foul play suspected here just carelessness!!

I've got the Dodge 2-3 weeks ago and never thought to check the nuts...apparently neither did the guys who restored it!

 

SO everyone; go and check your nuts!!! :naughty:

(Don't forget the ones on your vehicle either...) :rofl:

Good advice. My technical guru, who will read this but stays as a Guest on HMVF will concur. But watch out for tossers, too.

 

My day has been brightened up by seeing someone drive a British spec Dodge Weapons Carrier in Southend. Good man.

ALWAYS use a torque wrench. In the run-up to D-Day, Churchill Tank crews dutifully obeyed the Servicing Schedule instruction to tighten the wheel nuts and when they hit the beaches, all the wheel nuts sheered.

 

Hence modern vehicles including a torque wrench in the CES.

When I was in the Army, I was out in a Land Rover that got a flat tyre and the Corporal thought that the best way to tighten up the wheel nuts was to tighten as far as possible then stamp on the end of the wrench till he got that scraunching sound.

 

SO PLEASE DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME FOLKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Perhaps his Dad drove Churchill Tanks on D-Day!
