ReddingsRover
Hi, I'm Rob and I'm a Land Rover holic. I started on the small stuff - mainly Series 1 (ex-RAF)) and three Series 2's - and did a bit of Disco for while but I couldn't quit. I'm currently getting my highs from a 1986 ex-mil Land Rover 90. It's very low mileage and appears to have an original (non-green) engine. I suspect its been in reserve or on some base doing hardly any miles but I've exhausted all avenues of research in trying to identify where it has been or who operated it. There is a gap in the vehicle reg listings I have seen for Army, Navy and RAF vehicles. I'm willig to pay to find out about the land Rover but The Royal Logistics Corp web site has no details for 61-KF-92 either (though I have a release letter from DE&S confirming that it entered service on 02-06-1986). The search continues... When I'm not driving the Land Rover I'm secretary and newsletter editor for a Land Rover club. We organise trials and occasional greenlaning but a recent development is our members participating in BAMA events on Army bases and land - we even did Salisbury plain last September overnight in the dark - very challenging! ReddingsRover
Hi Gareth, I assume you live at the end of NRW behind the green gates with a Series One in the garage. I saw your Ferret (very nice) and a shed load of other interesting stuff when I left one of our club newsletters at your house many months ago. I live in NRE just the other side of the main road at the other end of NRW from you. If you have any landies or bits to flog locally then I can put them in our newsletter for free - I've just finished the latest copy, it's visible at https://app.box.com/s/ed8b6aka8g7omdlik2ee Regarding driving Salisbury plain in the dark etc, it would be great to see a Ferret at a BAMA event. Last year one of our opposing teams drove a Husky at the Millbrook testing ground (okay it'ws not always on Army land) until it got stuck on one section thus proving size is not always important!. I had to miss a BAMA event last w/e (family wedding) but my mates went in a Series 3 lightweight to an Army base in Shropshire. I haven't heard the full story yet but I gather they were hampered by a spent cartridge shell which punctured a tyre. For BAMA events you need a crew of two, a 4x4 of any sort, must be able to read a map or follow directions, and be a member of an invited club or member of the armed forces or emergency services. They are great fun!
