Before the hand of doom descends and condemns the motor to the scrap bin try some simple things and ask yourself a few questions.

For example,

Has the jeep stood for some time without starting,

Have you been starting it often but only static running the engine,

Have you lost coolant from the radiator without seeing any obvious leak,

Do a simple compression test

Has your engine oil changed colour to a dull grey and/or have you got a white sludge build up on the dip stick lid

The 'smoke' that you see at the filler tube does it smell of burnt oil

If your engine has a crank case ventilation valve (on the inlet manifold) fitted is it operating or has it become gummed up and stuck shut.

It may be as simple as condensation in the crank case or it may be something a bit more sinister try a few simple tests and answer the questions first.

As Pete says, with the warm weather weve had here, condensation will build up in the crankcase and mix with the oil causing `Mayonnaise` in the oil. If a vehicle is only static run up, even hot sometimes this isnt enough to burn it off. Ideally it needs a run out every week if being stored, keeps the cobwebs at bay too.

I used to service an old womans renault 5 years ago, only used it to go the shops half mile up the road once a week!

first thing i would do is take the scenic route to the workshops after collecting and shhot up the motorway. Should have seen the cr*p that used to blow out the exhaust every time, then clear up eventually!!

I know its difficult to take it for a run all the time but even in and out the garage, up the drive ets, HELL, across the lawn and imagine yourself in the hedgerows of Normandy (Please wear correct combat uniform and take lots of pics!!) as they were built to do! When you get arrested, questioned and put in the padded cell, just remember.....YOU DONT KNOW ME!!!! :nut:
