Hi all,

My name is Mark and i am new to this sort of thing, and i am most grateful that there is such a forum as the HMVF!:-)

I am am currently serving in the Royal Corps of Signals and have been selected for redundancy (tranch 3) after 17 years.:embarrassed: So I have just purchased a 1944 Ford CMP (LAA) truck and look forward to a long future looking after her.

I am a Driver Lineman by trade and have had the honour of driving/commanding numerous vehicles in a number of different theatres such as L/R 110(LWB), L/R WOLF(FFR)+(GS), BEDFORD(GS) 4T and 8T, L.DAF 4T(GS)+Water Bowser, ASV432(Radio Relay), SNATCH, and more receantly MAN SV, VIXEN, and RIDGEBACK. Oh and the MT section 16 seater Minibus for the Sgts Mess functions LOL!!!

I really got into WW2 history after taking Signals veterans of the 3rd Infantry Division to Normandy in 2004 and listening to their unique stories. I since go every year, though my friends (the veterans) are becoming fewer and fewer!

I want to honour their memory by dedicating a 2nd world war vehicle to them and take it over to Normandy for many years to come.

I like all vehicles from the period but i pacifically purchased a British vehicle so that i can paint the 3 Div Tricorn on it and dedicate it to the veterans of the Iron Division (3rd Div). To that end can any of you kind experts inform me weather the 3rd (UK) Infantry Division would of landed on Sword beach in a FORD CMP (LAA)??? I know the good old Canadians would have on Gold Beach. And i have read that the Light Anti Aircraft CMPs were employed to protect vital bridges.

My good friend Trader Horn (Signals Driver/Mechanic) landed on Sword beach in a Half Track (Awesome vehicles but well out of my budget):nut: And Les also landed on Sword with Montgomery's radio operator in a Willies Jeep (Beautiful machines but again, very exspensive. So i settled for a hansome CMP :).

In 2006 i purchased a 1940 BSA M20 but had to reluctantly sell her to fund my divorce in 2008:cry:. (Wish i kept it)

Glad i am now part of the team and i hope we can all help each other in our passion for military vehicles.

Stay safe!

Mark.
