M5Clive
Thanks for posting - really good picture. Split (timken) axle, long wheel base dump/tipper body trucks with open cabs. Could I be nosey and ask where you came across this image? Just curious that their may be more in the series of photographs. As you will no-doubt know, decent photos of the yellow truck & coach/General Motors production lines in WWII are extremely hard to find. Thanks again for sharing. deadline
The US Library of Congress has some amazing photos of 'American life' during the war. Oddly, the Dept that took these photos is the Farm Security Administration. "The photographs in the Farm Security Administration - Office of War Information Photograph Collection form an extensive pictorial record of American life between 1935 and 1944. This U.S. government photography project was headed for most of its existence by Roy E. Stryker, who guided the effort in a succession of government agencies: the Resettlement Administration (1935-1937), the Farm Security Administration (1937-1942), and the Office of War Information (1942-1944). The collection also includes photographs acquired from other governmental and non-governmental sources, including the News Bureau at the Offices of Emergency Management (OEM), various branches of the military, and industrial corporations." B&W http://www.loc.gov/pictures/collection/fsa/ Colour http://www.loc.gov/pictures/collection/fsac/about.html Many of the women in the factories are quite attractive.... but I digress. Type in 'Army Truck' (or some other similar search) and lots of very good photos will magically appear There is a series about Negro Mechanics that is CCKW-licious. Is that black on OD? Dark Green on OD? Black on beige?
