Could this be a Hillman 10 HP engine??

Looks like side vent, and no other "tilly" came with side vent engine, or did they?

Anyone have Part number for tilly engines?

Rolf,

Definitely a Hillman 10hp engine, checked it out against a picture in the workshop manual.

Here are a few army part numbers of rebuilt engines:

LV7/HL/P47566

LV7/HL/P47594

LV7/HL/P47647

LV7/HL/P47734

LV7/HL/P47754

once again thanks Richard!

The number I have got on the engine is : P653 50C

Don't know if it is a serialnumber for the engine..

Some other partnumbers together with this:

LV7/MM QA.10762 Engine Valve

LV7/MM X.22050 Engine Packing (small) for water pump

LV7/MM X.22548 Engine Valve inlet

LV7/MM X.2255 Engine Valve guide exhaust

LV7/MM X.22550 Engine Valve exhaust

LV7/MM X.22551 Engine Valve guide exhaust

LV7/MM X.22802 Engine Gasket for carburator

LV7/MM X.22919 Engine Spring for valve

63-149 Gearbox Clutch + Gearbox casings

Steering Steering arm

LV7/MM 1681 Cotter axle swivel pin

LV7/MM 10347 Stud nut

LV7/MM 35346 Nut lock washer

Do they tell you anything?

I have not been able to put them into any MCC parts, nor Austin Ten parts.

Have not found any numbers with LV7/HL

Chers

Rolf,

The numbers I gave you were for full engine assemblies, that one in your picture is not complete, so what we would call a "short engine". The number you quoted, is probably the part number, as it starts with P, as the ones I listed.

63-149 Gearbox, I think you will find that this is G3-149 "Gearbox casing with studs for front cover, bushes and greasers for clutch operating shaft, thrust washers and pad for laygear."...........for an Austin 10 Utility !

All the other numbers, LV7/MM, are Morris Motors, so are likely to be Morris 10 Utility or car. As I do not have a parts list for Morris cars, I cannot identify them.

Well I think I just have to wait until I get the parts home and sort them out propperly.

The photo of the engine was taken 15 feets up in a wobbly bobbly ladder... and I served at a submarine and do not like the hights on a ladder...

So then I got both Hillman and Austin 10 parts... hm... anyone having a project of one or the other for sale :-)

No have not found any LV7/NC..... yet...

And NC stands for what ?? :?

Rolf

Sorry Rolf, missed your question at the time. NC is the Norton code. There seems to be a cluster of very late contract Nortons in Norway which were presumably supplied post-war. There are also a few 1940 frames around Narvik. I wonder how they got there ?

British troops were in Narvik in 1940 until evacuation in face of superior German forces.

British troops were also there in 1945 as the war ended. When they came home afterwards, vehicles were left in Norway.
