Sankey Widetrack Trailer info needed

Hello all you Trailer Guru's!... Now I need some info myself on the MKIII Hydraulicly Braked Widetrack!

 

Right, does anyone have the part numbers/Info for a Master Cylinder overhaul kit at all? I would like to replace the seals.

Best Source for the parts, cheap would be VERY good! LOL!

 

Also, as I MAY need them. Similar for the slave cylinder units for each wheel station?

Only saw a MC repair kit once, £135 on fleabay and it may not have been the right seals. its not a standard part, brake specialists i've shown the trailer too couldn't identify the MC. wheel station brake parts are allegedly ford scorpio/ sierra bits depending on who you talk to. if you can definatively identify them your doing good, let us all know!!. No repair parts seemed to have been kept in the major depots (unless it was the same a Arrow 1T trailer chassis like the towing ring) and the trailers almost seemed to be reguarded as disposable if they got a fault.

 

it may be cheaper to by a new one than fix the brakes?

Mmmmmm, Thanks for your thoughts john. Seems like it's going to be a bit of a long journey on this!

 

Do you think contacting Universal Engineering would yield any info as to where they sourced the Master Cylinders originaly?

They would not I think, hold spares for the trailers, as they only constructed them & sold the whole trailer to the MOD as a Unit Peice.

 

How have other members overcome this difficulty? Any ideas?..........

My research - came to a end.

 

I had measured up for mountings etc, thinking it is just a standard "remote reservoir". IIRC - it is that way - BUT most of these are for DIY "Kit Cars" and are made from aluminium. This is no good , with brakes slamming on - you need cast iron to prevent "fragmentation".

 

I then progressed further as I suspected there were car fitments for this MC (and there were).

 

I have a bit of a collection of jumbled notes.

 

I recall coming to the conclusion there are the same cylinders dimensions same BUT the mounting flange is 90 degrees out, probably they took a common bulkhead mount & changed it by 90 degree to suit the widetrack ??

However - I believe it was made by Lucas Girling (for Commercial applications) - "I believe" ??? I would have to take a look , probably I took several photographs of one in situ. I know I had a bit of difficulty measuring flange hole centres when in situ.

 

7/8" bore (0.875")

1.7/16" max. stroke

 

Their (Lucas Girling) number being possibly 64068694 . Lucas 873 seems to be the cast No. but this could be machined for a few cylinders.

 

Yet another number - I have a note of is TRW 64046158 . I think this has a 11mm reservoir / or feed pipe thread.

It may be obsolete ?? but there could be good spurious about in CI ??

 

So - cars , I have a note of Rover P6

 

BUT , I seemed to Zero in on :-

 

Jaguar E-Type / S-Type / Mk. 10 420G

CLUTCH master cylinder

JAGUAR Part No. C27186

However , you will note the photograph seems to show a "reproduction" and it is a aluminium cylinder , I believe what you need is the "commercial" version of this that is cast iron . Possibly the Jag OEM was cast iron & some may be around repro or such as Lockheed , may be worth asking TRW about this

What about trying someone who repairs motorbikes ? 2 axle trailer = Motorbike ? = Master Cylinder ? Just throwing that thought in

 

The only other option would be to have it re-sleeved by someone like past/parts

 

Good lateral thinkng Andy! I will go up this route if I cant source a Jag M/C Overhaul kit!

 

The other alternative of course, is to use a common master cyl assy & make a new mounting on the Trailer for it!.....

 

Who would have thought that somthing as trival as a 2 x wheel trailer. Could cause such a headache?......:nut:

Hi, I have a Sankey single axle disk braked trailer. I had to move the master cylinder to extend the draw bar and hunted around for ages to get the hydraulics replaced. In the end I went to a local hydraulics repair firm and they made me up a new set of brake pipes and connectors.

 

I understand the original cylinder/pipe/slave and disk brakes were from a variety of vehicles. The cylinder is from an old transit type, the pipes were land rover, the slave was ford scorpio and the disks and callipers were scorpio parts turned down to size.

 

I have checked my hubs and they seem to be in pretty good condition and not leaking.

 

Witham have some wide track sankey 3/4 ton trailers and unissued trailer tubs in their auction site at the moment. £250 for a complete trailer aint a bad price.
