Hello all,

I am a passionate collector of WW2 US Army trucks and trailers. (Sorry chaps, no English trucks in my collection, though I do appreciate them very much). Have more (semi)trailers than trucks, hence my forum-name. Driving is my favorite action, maintenance a bit less. Some mechanics say: "Driving is a hinderly interference of the maintenance", with me it's just the otherway around.

Will enjoy reading all the interesting articles and posts and would like to add "Keep them Rolling".

Thanks for reading,

Robert

Hi

Welcome aboard, would welcome some pics of semi-trailers you have, I have an Autocar U8144 which I'm starting to restore and need to find a semi-trailer at some stage so would welcome pics and ideas of what would look good behind it.

Andy

Andy, according to my knowledge the Autocar U8144T is specifically designed for towing ponton trailers. The wooden toolbox behind your cab contains further material for building floating bridges. PLease look up at pages 510 - 513 of TM 9-2800 (The US Army Truck bible). I myself own an Autocar U7144T trucktractor + the Red Ball type "2000 Gallons (Keystone) Fuel Semi-Trailer" and a 10 Tons "Stake & Flatbed Semi Trailer (by Highway)". Will try to drop pictures later on.

Anyway, with regard to your special semi-trailer, I think Army Cars in Zwijndrecht / Holland (The former Marshall Museum) still have one for restoration. (If they did not scrape it in the meantime............) http://www.armycars.eu/Home.aspx.

Trust this all helps.

Thanks for your reply, pictures if you have them please, everybody on here loves pictures !!! I don't know how many 7144's there are in the UK but it can't be many.

I'm going to have to make the box behind the cab as mine as a radio body one never had one but I've managed to get a CD of the 7144 & 8144 manual from the US so I've got dimensions and it looks easy enough.

The pontoon trailer is a bit long really for both using it or storing it so I'm going to try and find something shorter, I've seen some photos of them with various other trailers apart from the pontoon one, something I can carry by Jeep with would be good.

If you do have a close up photo of the fifth wheel coupling and how its mounted that would be really helpful.

Regards

Andy

A cumbersome way to do it is as follows:

1) First get the photo to a size below about 300 kb - if it is bigger then you can reduce by using the photo managemnet program on your pc.

2) On the post reply page, click on manage attachments. Click on 'Add Files at top right with the green arrow alongside. Then click 'Select Files' lower centre. This will get you into your computer files, where you can select the image you want to load. Highlight file and click 'Open' - the file will then open in the upper box. Then click 'Load File' (lower centre), the file will load up in the lower 'attachments' box. Then click 'Insert inline' and it will appear.

OK there must be an easier way, but this works :cheesy:
