Tricky translation from Russian

I've been plowing through a Russian technical book and came across a word that google translate doesn't know.

 

Searching Russian websites always brings up stuff about fixing cars and specifically undoing nuts.

 

I'm guessing at 'slacken' or 'loosen'.

Google does a sort of reasonable job but it really cannot decipher the grammar. Here's what it spits out for one paragraph:

Perhaps a slang term rather than a grammatical one??? "Crack" (or "break") seal rings bells from wading through the BMP-1 manuals....

 

And if you think acronyms/abbreviations cause trouble now - wait till you try to get the R-123 radio set working! :shocked:

Hi John,

 

Here's a chapter about setting the zero position of the launcher turret. The mystery word is highlighted. Pretty sure it means to undo a lock nut or nut that's been locktite'd.

 

Many technical terms just don't translate directly but you can usually guess at the meaning. The guidance turret with the gunsight in translates to 'felling' or 'chopping' but also to 'wheel-house' and 'conning tower'

 

Anyway see what they think!

 

I have a Russian mate who helped me with all the driving controls on the dashboard etc, but I drew the line at giving him a 200 page book to translate!!!

 

8.4.3. Настройка блока автоматики и управления заключается

в выставке нулевого положения следящего привода горизонтально*го наведения ПУ и нуля походного положения привода вертикаль*ного наведения ПУ:

а) выставку нулевого положения следящего привода ГН ПУ производить в следующем порядке:

- Release launcher elevation lock.

b) Set zero travelling position of the launcher elevation drive in the following order:

- Stop the engine and turn off the car battery;

- Remove the ДВГН-ДВЛ and ДВВН fuses from the BAU;

- With tool 7813-0030 loosen locknut on elevation potentiometer and turn it with screwdriver AF6.890.003-P counter-clockwise;

- Check that the position switch is in position П (left hand switch up - semi-auto);

- Start the engine;

- Set the power switch to ON, Launcher will move to the stowed position and before it reaches it, it will stop. - Start the engine of the car;
