N.O.S. Posted October 3, 2012 Share Posted October 3, 2012 Looks like an Autocar 4144. Seems to be same configuration as the 8144 tractor unit used for pontoon trailers, with 1/2 body and 5th wheel. Degsy Posted October 3, 2012 Share Posted October 3, 2012 It's a Mack NJU 5-6ton 4x4 forerunner to the Autocar U-8144T which superceded it in 1941 and was an uprated version of the U-7144T 4 tonner. Degsy Posted October 3, 2012 Share Posted October 3, 2012 Like you I think 'foreign', I've seen pics of German trucks towing that from memory resembled that type which I assume to be a 4 wheeler turntable type. Although I remember trailers of this type on British roads in the late forties/ fifties they have always seemed to be much more common on the continent. I can see a wheel on the left rear, no sign of a track. What are the opinions on the marking on the cab door, doesn't look like an Allied Star to me.
