Rick W
What is the difference between a GAZ and UAZ jeep/truck and has anyone had any experience of owning or maintaining one? 8-)
0 sirhc
GAZ and UAZ are abreviations for the factories in which the trucks were built, the number e.g. 469 or 67 is the model number of the truck. UAZ is Ulyanovsky Avtomobilny Zavod and GAZ is Gorkovskij Awtomobilnyj Zavod. Chris
0 Rick W
Thanks for that, I take it the GAZ is the jeep version and the UAZ the camper type van? And did you remember how to spell those names or did you look them up!?
0 ian2b
Hi Rick, I had a UAZ 452 soviet ambulance and it was a good off roader with Hi/Lo 4 x 4 the suspension was a bit spongy but i got used to it but the biggest problem was the rust. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i272/ian2b/100_0247.jpg[/img] http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i272/ian2b/100_0248.jpg[/img] http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i272/ian2b/100_0251.jpg[/img] http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i272/ian2b/100_0253.jpg[/img] http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i272/ian2b/100_0259.jpg[/img]
0 sirhc
I looked them up of course! Have a look at http://www.tanksforsale.co.uk and http://www.gazclub.co.uk Chris
0 Rick W
So I rake it a UAZ for £200 will be £200 quids worth of rust!
0 andreadavide
Not necessarily. They rust as any other car of the seventies, but the gauge of the body panels make them easy to restore. Engine and drivetrain are even simpler than Land Rovers' one! Andrea
0 ian2b
So I rake it a UAZ for £200 will be £200 quids worth of rust! My UAZ was mostly rusty around the top where the water ran off the roof and into the water channels and the standard wheel arch rust but thats like any old vehicle. What UAZ are you thinking about.
