Is this a Rover 10 ?

Hello everybody, I wonder if anybody can help me identify my new LR. I have just returned from climbing all over it, funny how you only discover new things after you have bought it.

First thing , everything is written in German, all instructions, switches etc. ( I cant speak German!). I have looked at the plate under the bonnet there is a number 244 38 801G Type 88P BGS. On the plate on the bulkhead it says 88 Series 2A and a number 244 38801-G. The LR has a military rear crossmember and a boltable gearbox cross member. There is a series 3 brake servo fitted and also a different tow hook. The rear battery box is still there. The LR has twin tanks. I have taken a number of photos to try and show a bit more detail, small disaster with all the id plates as all out of focus I will try again next weekend.I have browsed this forum and looked at references to a Rover 10 a late military series 2A with 24 volts.

While this is also 24 volts, I don't know if it is an FFR. All military spec is new to me so I haven't really got much idea regarding electrics, ( and there are a bloody lot of electrics!). and help and ideas would be gratefully appreciated

At a quick guess, the clue is in the data plate, the letters BGS=Bundesgrenzshutz, Federal Border Guards.

Not British Army, but probably a bit rarer!

Hope this helps

Mark

Thanks for that Mark, It becomes a little clearer. The guy I bought it off told me it came from the German Police. I thought he must have meant British Forces military police. (I cant speak Latvia either.) Any further info would be appreciated. Regards Paul

Earlier truck but a great deal of info. - True S2 is German and has gained all museum info. etc. He has obtained it seems all the specialist radio equipment too.

I did not know the that BGS had any so late as Rover 10 and your truck is in great condition AND seems to be a genuine Rover 10 (late) , I think the winch is original too ..

Interesting read, I was planning to restore mine next year as I have a civilian series 2A ( 1965 ) to finish first and the OH would not be very happy if I had both Land Rovers in bits :-(. Thanks for all you input, makes my understanding of what I bought a lot clearer. As to condition, whilst it is a runner it still needs a lot of work. new rear cross member two outriggers, electrics sorting out, not charging ( Help anyone ) paint stripping. It is all original I think, maybe the series 3 brake servo was added later plus the rear tow hook does not make sense as you can't lower the tailgate. I will keep you informed of my progress. Regards Paul
