Ken Wales
I just tried to change the escape hatch from my Mk1 to my Mk2. Reason being the hatch I wanted to fit has the studs for the large bin and the other escape hatch has had them ground off. I thought it would be easy but the hatch does not fit as it appears to be fouling on the top edge. Two solutions I have thought of 1. To grind the top of the hatch so it fits or 2. To fit studs to the other hatch. Is there a trick to fitting the hatch I have tried forceful persuasion but to no avail. The other hatch fits quite easily. Does anyone have any good ideas? Also what is the spiral piece of metal for in the photo. It is on the left hand side at the bottom of the turret.

griff66
might need a bit of fettling at bottom of hatch/ hull to ensure hatch drops down low enough to allow hatch to engage at top is it miles out of fairly close?

Fairly close, would you work on the hatch bottom locating clips or on the hull plates. What would you use , a file?
griff66
i would work on the hatch rather than hull and yes a file would be good take little bit off then try fit it etc good idea to have some one inside so can see where it is snagging up. john fox
Also what is the spiral piece of metal for in the photo. It is on the left hand side at the bottom of the turret. you slip the commander's pressel lead into it - basically all it does is hold the lead out of the way of driver and/or commander
Diana and Jackie
You'll probably need an angle grinder with a grinding disc and not a cutting disc as its armour - bit tougher than mild steel :cool2: D & J Fairly close, would you work on the hatch bottom locating clips or on the hull plates.
