Scalp protector, used by ground-crew in the AAC to protect our noggins from rotor blades

when starting helicopters.

 

Don't know if anyone else uses them, they're not very robust.

 

Will that really make that much difference if hit by a rotating blade?

I doubt it, but then unless we're working on Gazelle the blades aren't low enough to strike us and if the other aircraft taxi in at a tilt we don't go under til it's rectified.

 

Just one of these health and safety rules really, according to the slightly more time served groundies it was introduced for the AH lot and spread from there.
