No thats not cold. This is what Robert Rush in "G.I. The US Infantryman In World War 2" had to say about the Ardennes experience:

It was damned cold. He wore everything he could get his hands on in an effort to keep warm. The enlisted mans overcoats were really warm; however, when they got wet and muddy they seemed to weigh a ton; with everything else they were carrying, many opted to wear their Parson's jackets and raincoats if they had them.

As outerwear, Joseph wore his enlisted man's raincoat. Under that he wore a Parson's jacket and a pair of fatigues; beneath the fatigues, a pair of OD's; beneath the OD's long underware and long socks; and on his head his knit cap underneath his helmet. He began with gloves, but quickly lost them, so put socks on his hands to ward off the cold.

They had been issued M1943 combat boots in September, but once wet, they bred cold feet, trenchfoot, and frostbite: soldiers quickely learned not to lace the boots too tightly because it constricted the flow.

Many of those who had galoshes threw them away because they were to exhausted to clean them. As trenchfoot cases went up, exhaution cases went down.

This march thing sound FUN.

That would be the 15 day forecast from here Lloyd:

Forecast

Real nice graph at the bottom, easy to see the temps really PLUMITTING, but only just in time for the march. You could always say a Special Prayer for the Bastogne weather,... I believe its been done before.

Edit by Joris: Fixed the link.

I have all the webbing & pouches including cartridge belt, magazine pouch, first aid pouch, canteen & cover, bayonet, folding shovel & cover, British woolen trousers tailored into US style, replica M3 fighting knife, a fibreglass Garrand (saving private ryan prop), gas mask bag, backpack with mess tin pouch & mess tins & KFS, leggings. anything there of any use? the down side is you'll need to collect it from Torbay.

Cheers

Ian

Ladies and Gentleman.

I would to say a whole hearted thank you to those guys who have offered their kit and help for the Bastogne event but I am really sorry to say that due to circumstances outside our control I won't be able to join everyone in this special event.

The offers of help have been more than appreciated and I am touched, thank you.
