Northallerton Wartime Weekend - June 18/19th

Recommended Posts

Here's a few pictures from the Northallerton Wartime Weekend, their second event at the Allerton Court Hotel. Around 15 vehicles turned, four of which were from our MVT group. There were also a good number of dioramas portraying British, German and Russian troops. Ken was there with some of his Red Devils display and the Northern WW2 Association were there with their halftrack.

The event was started by Frank Stone firing a mortar. Frank was, a POW billeted in the hut the 'Great Escape' tunnel started from. This was followed by a convoy into town by most of the vehicles in attendance. The BBMF Spitfire had an engine fault and so a Hurricane was sent instead.

It was our first family camping trip with the Dodge, and it was a bit of a squeeze getting all our camping gear in, along with a pushchair, high chair and all the other toddler field equipment! We managed however, and had a pleasant weekend. The weather was kind, being thoughtful enough to just rain overnight.

We provided a back drop for some of the wedding photographs for the wedding reception on the Sat evening as well....

It was a good do as far as we were concerned. The trip in to town on the Sat am was entertaining. It was market day so the place was rammed anyway. Heading up the convoy was the Mayor of Northallerton, who initially headed up the convoy in one of those hand powered disabled tricycle things - like a bicycle, but you power by turning a crank with your hands. Having caused mayhem getting up the high street, being overtaken eventually by everything in front of me (in the GMC), he promptly leapt off it, abandoned it at the side of the road and disappeared in to the crowd, in a very Andy and Lou way (Little Britain).
