paulob1
1. Check all plugs are firing. 2. Check timing and points...especially if there is a general sparking or firing fault. 3. Check fuel supply...fuel pump, is there any fuel in the engine oil, is the pump leaking slightly. 4. Check the accelerator pumps on the engine, they sometimes fail. Check for dirt in the carburettor, check filters to make sure non are blocked etc etc... 5. If you know the compression is okay then its unlikely the valves need adjusting but it may be worth doing as they may be just on the edge of out and so when it warms up they dont actually close properly and you will get reduced performance as the engine warms up... 6. Is the fault a general lack of power or a sudden loss of power, if the latter check the tank for vacuum...ie check if the breather is okay... If all this fails to identify a problem then you have to start checking for more mechanical faults on the engine itself...
