Jack
Hi guys. Was just reading Steves post over on CCKW.org about his racks. I notice on your pictures of the racks Steve that one of your hoop uprights was stuck/wedged in the socket. I have noticed this before on several CMC's and indeed mine is the same. Is everyones like this? Was this for a reason as mine is the second uprights from the back? :? :? Yours confused. Jack.
Chappers
Hi Jack, There are several that have snapped off level with the top of the steel aswell,They are stuck fast with rust ,I'll make a drift and knock them out from the bottom. With my other GMC 353 I have no problems removing the upright timbers. The rear timber work is going to be stripped off and shot blasted then any unuseable bits of timber replaced.I'll also have the steel work blasted and then etch primered, red oxided and the 2 coats of OD to finish.the steel uprights will the be greased aswell as the timber, that should stop any future problems. Degsy
They tend to stick as the wood swells when wet, French bodied trucks have a cut-out in the bottom of the steel socket presumably to act as a drain in an attempt to alleviate this problem.
