My Dodge

Hello everybody!

A picture of my Dodge as it was when it arrived to my place. I have to admit that there has not been much visible progress since then.

I have collected some spares (mainly exhaust etc) and tried to sort out what the parts in the wodden bin are for.

As you can see the rear is not original, but at least I found some round steelpressed parts for the sides. I suppose it may be quite a stupid idea to start working on this object, since there are quite afew pieces missing, but I have never been that clever:D

And it is not as bad as it may look: I have the fenders, complete if rusty windshield-frame with what I think is original glas and some other bits and pieces.

Also I have got a bit found of "Stjarna" (Star in swedish) as my kids have namned it.

Looks good to me...... a pity that icky snow is the background

Regarding not being that clever, don't be so harsh on yourself as we have several others amongst the top 10 on the Forbes "OMG what have I done list"

And not much progress!

I have removed the exhaust manifolder and found out that one of the screws clamping the intake/ exhaust togetther was broken. I suppose I should have taken varning from the fact that al nuts clamping the manifolder to the engine was new but there was nothing done to the manifolder.

Anyhow, I have cleaned up the manifold and decided to split it and re-thread the holes if necessary. Also I have to find a solution to the fact that the hole for the crank-house ventilation have been retreaded with a M-tread insteda of the original .

Otherwise there is some work going on with seats and the winch.

AND I HAVE FINALLY GOT ME AN WELDING MACHINE, JIPPIE!:D

All the best

Johan

Things go wrong sometimes!

I have been a little uncertain about the engine in my Dodge since it does not look the same as other WC engines I have seen.

Today I think I know why: It is not a Dodge WC engine but a Fargo Power Wagon engine. I did a search on the serialnumber of my engine and it turns out that the number matches the Dodge /Fargo PW series.

On a technical-historical basis this is interesting since I think the swap has been made by the swedish armed forces. They had a bunch of Fargo PW and I guess that towards the end of their service a lot of cars were canibalaised.

On the restoration basis this raises a lot of questions and doubts. Maybee it is better ti use "Stjarna" as a donor car instead. After all I miss a lot of other parts for her, and it may not be worth-while to put the needed time and labour into this project. Time for some serious thinking!

Yeah I suppose. But the boring bit is that when I look closer on how the swap has been done I start to belive that it was done by someone that started to restore her earlier. Some bolts looks quite new and things lite radio-suppresion cables(?) have just been cut off and not reconnected. On the other hand it looks like the engine is from a fairly early version of the Power Wagon. Maybe I can find a PW with a Dodge engine installed;)

Nice looking truck but as you said, a lot of work. If you continue restoring this one or not I would seriously consider getting a donor vehicle. With all the parts missing from this one that will be a lot cheaper then buying all the parts separately.

Also finding a replacement for the cargo bed might prove tricky enough by itself.

You should find plenty of donor vehicles in Norway. Best bet would be to ask Marty on the forum.
