robin craig
We try to always slave start from another vehicle and not a pair of batteries on a trolley as others are often liking to do. A while ago we tried to start an M818 from a Bedford and had a minor display of arcing when coupling up the slave cable using an adaptor for the M series connection. We stopped instantly. We usually start Brit vehicles with same and M series with same but there wasnt one close at hand that day. Can anyone comment on what may have happened? andym
Have you tried using that adaptor before? Sounds like it might be wired back to front! A quick check with a voltmeter should tell you what's going on ... Andy

Sean N
Robin, where were the sparks from, the adaptor? Was the adaptor the final connection i.e. Bedford already connected to slave lead?
Grasshopper
The adaptor has worked perfectly for ages. R I was referring to the vehicle earth. We get sparks from the trains at work when we plug in the battery chargers as the building earth is better then the earth through the train body, wheels and rails. I believe SirHc had this when he connected a sabre to a dead 432 with an A frame, and the 432 then started as it had a poor vehicle earth. He had tried jump starting it with a cable before. We fitted a standard NATO jump socket to our M series truck and have had no problems with it.
