Saracen transmission.

Hi there Saracen specialists. I have seen a Saracen with a faulty transmission. Can a propriety engine with automatic transmission be installed in lieu of the original B80 and preselect setup?

If it can be done it sounds like a BIG job! Would need to be a giveaway price saracen to make it worthwhile I'd say

Sir,

It will be one heck of a job! You will need to keep the transfer box to transmit the power to the wheels. Furthermore, resale value won't be good unless it is a successful transplant and right person at the right time.

We have some scraps in South Africa!:cool2:

Cheers,

Is the transmission divorced from the transfer box or is it in unit?

funnily enough, I was driving a dustcart the other day, perkins eagle diesel, with allinson fully auto 5 speed box,...IF it could be made to fit, it would be a fairly swift vehicle and good on fuel, dustcart weigh up to 26ton, laden and still return 12-15mpg when loaded!........:cool2:

It would be quite an engineering task, and I think an Eagle diesel would be a bit on the large side, a 12 litre engine, not particularly high revving compared to a B80, so unlikely to go as fast.

The gearbox does come away from the transfer box, which would have to be retained. To mate an auto box to the transfer box would entail quite a bit of engineering. Also it have to be an engine with a shallow sump or converted to dry sump, again more engineering.
