Iain
Hi, my other post regarding lorries has wandered off-topic more than somewhat! I'm looking to buy one of these, I would be grateful to hear from people who know, as to the pros & cons of the above? The Constructor I've my eye on is a non- RAF (narrow) version, fitted with A Rolls-Royce 220 engine. I don't really have any leads on an Explorer at the mo', but would prefer a diesel version for economy reasons, & possibly a bit more grunt? A Militant would be a standard 6X6 flatbed, HIAB would be nice! Cheers, Iain
ArtistsRifles
Con't help on Constructors, more's the pity. Spent a while playing with Millys back in the mid-Seventies and have a soft spot for them :-) From memory - HIAB equipped ones are few and far between as are any of the specialised ones like the tippers. If I could have one (no more money or space) I'd go for the 10 ton GS with winch version.

It has bell housing to suit Scammell, and there are couplings with it. Missing from it are injector pipes. and a few other bits and bobs. Clutch plate has no lining but these are esily obtained. It is a Mk1 Explorer with sprung front tow hitch. My wife has recently rebuilt the tool boxes and it has just had new rear brake shoes fitted, and new hub oilseals. Personally I feel petrol engines have more grunt, they are ceratinly more responsive. It may not be the project you are after, but just letting you know. PM me for more details. Year 1950, currently MOT exempt, and if used unladen, currently, can be driven on a car licence. Edited June 15, 2010 by antarmike

Iain
Actually - it's probably the one for sale on Milweb? I think the one for sale on Milweb is a 9'5" version. It's beyond my budget too. It's not the one at Crouch's. Mark, was that the Scania-engined one you mentioned before? I think I'd prefer the RR engine anyway. I'm not the worlds best mechanic, & I'd guess the RR would be a simpler bit of kit than a more modern Scania anyway?
Iain
Personally I feel petrol engines have more grunt, they are certainly more responsive. Thanks Mike, that's the kind of info I need, as I'm mostly guessing here! :-) PM sent

Just a thought mate ! Good luck anyway ! http://www.milweb.net/classifieds/large_image.php?ad=52136&cat=

Has the nose been lengthened or something, it looks a bit odd? What's the contraption at the back end, a HIAB of some description?

Yeah Iain looks longer than normal probably to squeeze the Volvo components in ! I think the parts on the back could be the load bed sides ! Not to sure ! If you want to know anything about running Constructors you could give 6X6 (Tom) a PM as he is very familiar with them ! Regards Andy !
