0 antarmike Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 Any world war II paint that has got on it by mistake, white stars etc. Spurious weaponry attached to it....any attched claims that it landed at Omaha on D Day +1.... Quote
0 Jessie The Jeep Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 What ever you buy, chances are there will be something wrong with it that needs replacing, but.......... Obvious things to look for are no lumps of coal being thrown out of the exhaust when the engine is running and no grinding/rattling sounds from the engine! Signs of brake fluid seeping around the wheels and masker brake cylinder. Check where the biting point is on the clutch - if the biting point is when the pedel is almost fully released, the clutch is in need of replacing. Grinding sound from the clutch thrust bearing during clutch operation. Check for signs of rot in the top hat channels under the floor. Everything can be fairly easily fixed however! ...and if you want to see what bits are Willys and what is Hotchkiss, have a look at my comparison pics here - http://www.sacarr.co.uk/jeep/m201mb/m201mb1.htm That's all that springs to mind for now. 0 Nick Johns Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 (edited) So just the usual basic stuff then .Good to know theres nothing extra to be wary ofThanks Jessie : The gearbox...they can be very notchy or baulk to change gear when worn, check for worn layshaft bearings whilst in 1st/2nd gear, not growling by comparison when in top gear, also jumping out of gear on overrun...all mean fairly expensive job to sort out Look underneath for any serious oil leaks from transfer box and axles, worn prop shaft splines front & rear, again all mean work and money to sort out, if its 24volt check its charging ok with all the lights on Edited September 13, 2009 by Nick Johns Quote
