  1. Did I spot a steering damper or two?? The Constructors had them as the steering would go into oscillation at certain speeds after hitting a pothole, certainly with the 10" wheels and 14.00 x 20 tyres:shake: Have you looked at adapting a boot from the end of a car/light commercial steering rack?
  2. max speed x 7.9/6.25 if going from 7.9 to 6.25 or max speed x 6.25/7.9 if going from 6.25 to 7.9:coffee: PS Are you Ben's bruv with the glow in the dark Amazon?
  3. Digital is fine when things are constant, analogue is much better for showing fluctuations when all you get is a blur with digital.
  4. Which one is it Chris, I have a model 8 in very good condition which is available?
  5. Or to be slightly more accurate, driving school:coffee:
  6. I am sure there must be a REME publication that shows them, but all I can offer is a good description if there is anything you need to know.
  7. Remember the wise words from Younggun when he was buying an Explorer, it is far easier to seek forgiveness than permission.....
  8. That is spot on Will, I have a clever bit of kit that bolts on in place of the adjuster and makes turning the ring easier.
  9. They could have spelt HOLLEBONE correctly:( Knight Surplus have several new ones in stock if anyone is looking for some. I still have a pair of H/D bow shackles and a pair of rope slings lurking in the garage for someone to complete their kit.
  10. They were sold off in Germany by the Disposals Organisation RAOC to the likes of L W Vass who then brought them back to the UK. I bought chassis 7413 for spares which was sold in Hamm, Westfalia on 05/06/72. Scammellitis is a predominantly UK activity; the rest of the world thinks of us as a nation of junk collectors:(
  11. Or you could have had one like mine for £1250 including delivery:)
  12. Yes, it varied slightly between contracts but at one stage I had every single item brand spanking new including the rare manual chainsaw in it's leather case:-D The oak skids/rollers/gunplanks would cost a small fortune at todays prices.
  13. Totally off topic, but who remembers what was previously produced at the Rolls diesel engine plant??
  14. That explains why you need a new one - they are known in the trade as Never Ready.:-D
  15. For easy I would substitute quicker, important when changing up on a hill with a heavy load. The second use is to stop the gearbox rotating when selecting a gear from stationary to prevent damage to the dog clutches. This is particulary important with a twin plate clutch which tends to drag more than a single plate.
  16. By gear changing I assume you mean swapping the cogs after they have broken:-D
  17. I am not surprised, there isn't a Scania 12 litre V8, the early ones were 14 litre and the current ones are 16 litre. I doubt you could sensibly fit a V8 as the extra width would foul the steering box and the gearbox would certainly not take the torque. If it has to be a Scania why not try the old 9 litre as it revs quite high and will maintain a reasonable top speed. Easiest conversion is a Leyland 680 Power Plus at about 200bhp or with a bit more work a Rolls 220 will fit - Witham have some recons in the current tender.
  18. Can be yours, just need to do a couple of hours overtime: http://www.mod-sales.com/direct/vehicle/,38,/17006/Michelin.htm

  20. Simon, have you looked to see if your 305 has a Thermostart, I don't remember seeing one on mine but will have another look later? As you have found out, the Fodens are not slow:shake:
  21. Well done Nick, we told you it was quite simple even with the dog helping. If the valves are not recessed you will have to remove them to re-face the heads, and if the heads are not dowel located use a straight edge or bolt the manifolds on to ensure the heads are in line. Torque it down, warm it up then re-torque + re-set valve clearances. PS It is a MEADOWS, as in Henry Meadows who were just down the road from Guy Motors in Fallings Park, Wolverhamton where some of the 4x2 Crusaders were built.:coffee:
  22. Cranes 7 1/2 ton recovery trailer, as British as they come and usually pulled by Pioneers.
  23. That is the baby one, Rotran use a 10x10 version in Africa for heavy haulage.
