  1. The ex Victor pilot in charge was interviewed on Radio 2 last night. He claimed that he had gone over the procedure to be followed with his no 2 who promptly froze when told to close the throttles at 100knots. He described the unladen Victor as having a tremendous performance and had reached between 120/140 knots before he managed to close the throttles at which point the bomber left the ground. He contemplated a circuit but with a mile of runway left decided to land just as a gust of wind blew him over to the left. Make what you like of the above, but that is what he said.
  2. I remember that - a Range Rover tried to recover a Champ using a KERR rope. The Nato hitch broke off the Champ and flew through the rear window and windscreen of the Rangie, narrowly missing the driver's head.:shake:
  3. Check out the Bordon one:http://www.rememuseum.org.uk/vehicles/trrv/vehcent.htm
  4. I have seen the result of: 1 A single car transport trailer that broke loose from the towing vehicle when the chassis finally broke after being cracked for some time. The driver of the car it hit had his right leg sliced off. 2 A horse trailer with a floor so badly rotted that a horse put it's foot through while on the move. The injury to the horse was so severe it had to be destroyed. Perhaps an annual check up by a competent person would not be such a bad idea.
  5. It may be a CAT 830MB wheeled tractor but do some research before quoting me. It is similar to the Clark 290M and capable of being converted into a 'dozer or loader.
  6. Cracking job Jim, when you come to start it up remember not to use the neutral between 1st and reverse as the gearbox oil pump will not be driven.
  7. That's OK, done the same myself on more than one occasion:-D
  8. Dave, the first one is a Scammell and not the EKA but a converted tractor.
  9. The badge reads 'MINITUG' if that means anything to anyone. The larger boxes appear to have 4 lights, the smaller ones 2.
  10. Had they known the true meaning of 'Manchester' they may have had second thoughts.:-D
  11. Electrolysis of water to give Hydrogen and Oxygen:???
  12. Well said Degsy, people forget how many thousands of troops and guns were not available for front line duty as they were otherwise employed defending Germany from air strikes. Further manpower had to be diverted to repair the constant damage to factories, railways, power supplies and communication systems. Re. the bouncing bombs it would seem that they may not have been that effective as to the best of my knowledge they were never used again. When my Father in law was tasked with destroying the Kembs barrage he suggested using Upkeep bombs but all the original Lancs had been converted back to conventional bombers and he completed the job using Tallboys.
  13. PM me your email and I will send the details and some photos. Bought it for our small workshop as we were having power cuts every time a cow scratched it's rs on a pole; it arrived the day Powergen decided to run a new cable to our village.:argh:
  14. Loggy, a couple of things to remember when buying generator: The power is often quoted in KVA, the true power is KW which is the KVA x a typical power factor of 0.8. If you are going to run any sensitive electronic kit such as computers you need a gen with AVR - automatic voltage regulation. Small gensets run at 3000rpm to give 50 cycles or 3600rpm to give a higher output at 60 cycles. This is the equivalent of a motor mower running flat out and the din from an open frame type set is excessive if you are camping next to another pitch. My son takes a fully enclosed £3300 4000kw Honda gen to Le Mans every year and even that is about as loud as you can cope with, 59db at 7m. Diesel gens are dearer to buy but far cheaper to run as they can use red diesel. If the noise is not an issue I have an open frame 8.8KVA/7KW Briggs V twin available at the sort of money you mentioned above which has only run for 2 hours. The engine is a proper industrial unit with pumped lubrication plus filter rather than splash lubricated and being a twin is far easier on the ears than a single. Mike
  15. No you are right, they had the low datum cab and a way of clamping down the cab and suspension to save vital inches.
  16. Loggy, I just measured a 32a blue plug and each terminal will take a 3.5mm diameter stripped cable.
  17. Looking good Jim, try Shorts of Swansea for the regulator: 01792 469595 Mike
  18. My mk1 ex RAF had the kit boxes fitted when it was taken over by REME. Did you spot the extra rear wing braces??

  20. Or to be strictly true re-fitted, Alan and I pulled it out for some TLC many years ago and lifted it back in using Dave Crouch's Militant recovery:)
  21. Common problem - indicators on the blink:)
