  1. Found this in some old photos from the seventies
  2. This is an old Albion but sadly no-more
  3. If you look over the left as you look at the Airman there is a partial sight of another Aircraft, not a AW Whitley but what a Hudson perhaps or HP Hampden - I know it's not RAF vehicles but it is identification
  4. An interesting set of photographs thank you for sharing them – the OY with the roundel on the bonnet besides not having rear-view mirrors on the door as would be usual for an OY and the odd roof hatch covering it has a curious arm attached above the left hand headlamp at about 45-deg – for a pennant maybe. On the right side (left as you look at it) of the front grill are the numbers 22** with a diagonal stripe possibly a unit marking
  5. That's interesting and gives the photo provenance missing in the original post
  6. Apart from the stripe over the bonnet and cab roof I see nothing there to suggest the vehicle is anything other than an OY. No indication of unit marking British or German nor census number. The photo is taken from slightly above the level of ground the OY stands on possibly a bank if the blurred stuff in the foreground is grass, who was using it at the time the photo was taken may just be speculation
  7. Sale of goods act 1979 doesn't make the distinction private sale of secondhand goods only goods offered for sale - all the above said the Bedford MW offered for sale looks good and one the seller can rightly be proud of
  8. I understood these Mowags were built and used as training aids using Dodge running gear and engines with a simple turret and pipe for a gun, I have never heard them described in the same context as a Ferret, but you learn ?
  9. Agree, give an indication of price your looking for will stop the speculative low bids. If it’s priced right it will sell if not it won’t a scan through e-bay to see the same vehicles time and time again with a top end price tag that don't go and yes I do know how long it can take to restore a project vehicle and the cost involved. Possibly one of the questions a seller should ask is do I want a profit or do I want my vehicle to go to someone who cares and would look after it for the benefit of all. Ultimately the seller has an obligation under the sales of goods act to be open and transparent in the transaction.
  10. I'm sure there have been armoured discs attached to vehicle wheel assembles at various times and probably very good reasons they are not mainstream. I doubt an armoured or otherwise steel disc would support the weight of the vehicle or take side loadings imposed under combat conditions without buckling and becoming deformed and useless. Vehicle in the photo looks like a reworked twin stear aircraft tug
  11. I doubt it’s my rendition of the list as I never published it;
  12. Having loan my copy of the Chilwell list never again to see it a friend lent me one dated 23-November-1944 to copy. Being printed on foolscap it didn’t fit my A-4 scanner with my friend wanting it back I reluctantly made a digital copy for my own use. The edition I copied contained a number of handwritten corrections and additions with possibly census number 6251282 halfway down a page being the last entry for the list up to 23 November 1944 and those past that number being on a new sheet including VW’s for the British possibly to the end of 46 – just a thought
  13. What a great photo guessing taken from the driver’s seat of a Lancaster showing the diversity of vehicle types used by the air force. The photo captioned KB-721 Returning Home, a Lancaster Mk X Canadian built with a reputation for bring all its crew home from more than fifty operationally sorties including daylight raids returned to Canada and scraped
  14. Found the photo by chance while searching on Google for RAF Squadrons photos
  15. Nice photo but a cropped section of DND Archives PL-44557 Caption MAY 31 - 1945 Lancaster Bombers of 428 "GHOST" Squadron and 428 "MOOSE" Squadron Taxi on the Flight Line in Yorkshire England - Looking at the Lancasters the lead aircraft is possibly a Canadian built machine note the lack of a pronounced collar around the mid-upper turret with twin .5 cal as opposed to the second machine with the .303 cal also note the difference in the roundels on the upper wings, little in the way of standardization - I'm not sure there was a 6x6 Matador refueling vehicle but there was an AEC 854 & 0854 6x6 2,500-gal Petrol Tanker I believe Matador refers to the AEC "Matador" Tractor 4x4 Field Artillery or so a little publication from 1944 to do with Bridge Classification of Vehicles Army and RAF list
  16. Purely out of interest what body type is the OY or would you share a photo of it - Barry
  17. Question - is the War and Peace show on in 2018 if so when and where
  18. The assumption again is the photo is genuine, knowledge of the subject and faith in the person interpreting the source photo - attached is a photo of a convoy with several variations in colour all green but which I can't tell - the photo is Malay 1952 in subsequent photos some vehicles appear gloss finish while others appear matt for similar vehicles side by side
  19. I find guessing a colour even with knowledge of the subject from a historical black and white photograph can only be a personal interpretation rather than factual
  20. Off topic completely in response to the above at the end of the seventies into the eighties thats precisely what was done not on out of the way roads but high density motorways trunk routes and through the centre of Cities London included on pre agreed routes day and night with vans rigids and artics UK and abroad at the time I was one of forty eight drivers assigned to the test program - happy days
  21. Fred was more of an instinctive person as shown in demolition legging it as a chimney came down behind him saying do-ya-like-that yes I did
