  1. Give them time Bubba, but thy are a bit British centric and like the European conflict as its close to home. Just think in 50 years, kids will look at vehicle and think its old?
  2. Thank you for your suggestions’ so far. When I was discharged from the Army 11 years ago, I moved to my current address and was always fascinated by the stone veranda wall all that remained of the famous Sugarloaf Creek Hotel (Glue Pot). About 18 months ago I started to rebuild with a lot of help from the local community, and ex army mates. It has become a lot more involved then when I first started, in away it has become a living history museum with prominence going to the 2/8th Armoured Regiment as they made it there home away from home during the second world war and the 2 locals that were in the Boar war. I have no intention of ever getting a licence to sell alcohol, and the pub is not money making venture more a men’s shed but females are allowed, at one end there was a ladies parlour and this will return once I finish building the open fire place. Any vehicle that I acquire must be capable of replacing my current Ute and doing the tasks that it is currently required to do, a bonus would be to carry more passengers. Pre WW2 to 1957 is the age range (the pub was delicensed in1957). A story that a local told me was that some time during the war he and his sister were coming home from school and they had to detour through the paddocks’ due to over 80 Army trucks parked along both sides of the road and hundreds of solders having a quite beer. One day I hope to recreate this.
  3. As some of you would know I am in the process of rebuilding the Sugarloaf Creek Hotel. This is situated 10 miles from the Puckapunyal Military Base, it was renowned as a solders watering hole prior to the Boar war and its down fall was Nashos sneaking out of camp in the 1950s for a quite drink with a borrowed Jeep. So when I have finished what sort of Military Vehicle should the hotel have?
  4. Parked in front of my pub. Welcome on board are you in Victoria and have you been to Corowa.
  5. I wonder were that is. do we know how many came to Australia
  6. It will make an interesting list Jan It was a great weekend. Driving around the caravan park when I booked in there was an impressive array of vehicles. Some even went for a swim Even some Pommy ones And we had some rain the first for 2009.
  7. From my intel, its all happening, with over 60 vehicles running around the country side. They are expecting over 200 for the parade on Saturday. Flat battery in the Lynx fuel leak in the half track but the spot light works on the MRV. All in a days work, we will be loading on Thursday and running up there on Friday morning. Today I'm of to the Avalon Air Show. Have a good day
  8. That is an impressive list, it would appear that we downunder have saved a lot. I will take some photos of our variants after I get back from Corowa. Are there any in private hands in the UK that are not on the list.
  9. This begs the question where are all the Matilda's is there any in private hands and in running order. We have a good collection in the museum but nun in running order.
  10. Well here we got 5 mils of rain, the first for the year (this is March is'ent it) after 3 weeks of fires to close for comfort and temps in the 40s. To cap it of we also had snow up in the high lands as well this week.
  11. Well you could pack and visit downunder, but the last couple of days its been so hot that you have to wait half an hour for the water to cool down to have a cold shower. I should of stayed in Darwin as it was cooler, but the beers cold. See you a Corowa?

  13. On Monday we celebrated Australia Day at the pub by having pizza's cook in the pubs new wood fired oven, 17 pizzas on a 34c day and a lot of Beer. We also now have a dedicated parking bay for horses. I am still waiting for the army to tern up, apparently during the war it was a common site to see them lined up along the road with beer barrels lined up on the veranda wall. I am hoping that some one has a photo as there must be some some were as well as brengun carrier racing on the sports oval.
  14. Hang on I could do with a cool change even Darwin is cooler than here. A beer is by donation and if you bring your MV the first one is free.
  15. Well yesterday it was 42c, today is going to be 44c but the beer is cold and the bar is cooler by 10 degrees for most of the day.
  16. welcome to the forum it is fun working in a museum and it is one way to play with toys that you cant afford.
  17. The Vickers Medium has similar markings all over the hull and turret. my understanding is that this is done after the plate is heated and rolled to size, in the rolling process the steel grain, molecules are forced in one direction, so when cooling the steel is hammered in at right angles to force the grain to move, flow at that angle giving it extra strength.
  18. Yep 28 today after last nights cool change, last 400 bricks to be laid so got to go.
  19. Rick have you printed out the drawing and put it together? You will see that the RAAF did a detailed study of the site, your RAF should of dun the same for your crash site and there should be records available, ring your local base. This was one of the photos from the recovery task, I will post the story when I can, I am trying to get some jobs dun before the expected 39c today.
  20. Dear Rick W and members I know miracles can happen in this forum but I am on the other side of the world. The drawing provided is of one of our aircraft that went missing on the 21st of November 1943. The site of the crash wasn't discovered until October 1992. The recovery occurred in 1996. If you work on longitude and latitude in google earth you should find the site Have fun.

  24. This is from Corowa last year after running through town to the turn around point. to start the parade though town. Jack I know you are a man of the world but have you considered sponsorship from one of the fuel company's Over hear if we shop at certain shopping centers and spend X amount we get a fuel voucher for 4 cents a liter of the retail price. If you could find a sponsor that could do that it would help. Good luck it sounds great, I wish I could be there. See you at Corowa some time.
  25. This was the first Christmas that the family celebrated in the Sugarloaf Creek Hotel and the first visit for my Grandsons I received from my youngest daughter the complete collection of Dads Army.
