According to the book by Peter Hodges (British Military Markings 39-45) Corps Troops HQ is number 17 on a black square. Look for the Aldershot Military Museum site, there is a picture of a Jeep used by Gen Horrocks with 17 on it.

Just looked to see what it said for my MT500 and it says SORN so you may have an issue.

In the 14 years since I've had the jeep I had never noticed this before. Looking at this thread http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?36617-Electronic-Ignition, it has come to my attention that my distributor is different to this one. Where the L/T wire from the coil comes in this one has the terminal directly opposite the condenser connection whereas the connection on mine is offset (equal to about five mins on a clock face). After a look around I assume that mine is a Prestolite model as opposed to the Autolite. I'm pretty sure I've sussed it but would like someone to confirm this for me as I'm toying with the idea of converting mine. Cheers Don

If it's for a short time it's ok, the export licence you did (OGEL) need has now been withdrawn for some EU countries France being one of them. I'm sure someone will expand on this. Don

Have to say I agree Jim, after travelling round Normandy during the D-Day celebrations in the jeep a couple of times and doing A+E both times (not quite the same as your trip I know ) sitting in a field twiddling your thumbs isn't the most inspiring way to spend a weekend. Not a bad programme, though some of his facts were a bit off the mark. I couldn't make out what the gauge was on the manifold and as commander said, the chassis tag looked too good to be true. Was that an authentic bridge plate, never seen one of them on a wartime vehicle before. Oh and he needs to learn the difference between a Hurricane and a Spitfire. Thought it was a bit odd buying everything from the States (seemed very cheap though) it was like there is no parts network in the UK at all, not a mention of any suppliers. Sat and watched it with the wife and was told that if I picked holes it would be turned off. :-X

A mate of mine has a VW camper in a tent by Protech Shelters, I think they do a range of different types of portable shelters, might be worth a look. Don

Personally I've had a fascination with the war since I was the age of a little pig due to my dad being in the Royal Marines for 14 years, with the war coming in the middle of his service. I went through the Airfix stage in my youth and treated myself to the Jeep in a moment of midlife crisis. The chance to own a part of history was to good to pass up, also as Big Ray said, its good to keep the memory alive. Just to add dad was RM gun crew on 6" and 8" cruisers but I couldn't get one of those in the shed. :cool2:

I think you're right ruxy I've worked the piston a bit and it is more or less releasing now, I suspect lack of use is the cause as she hasn't done many miles this year. I'll take her for a run tomorrow and see how it goes. Yes Tony there is a flexy, that was just me having a senior moment :blush:
