  1. Yes it did as well as retaining drive to the standard LR front axle. However there was no track steering so it had a tendancy to want to go straight on in the rough.

    Flooding

Ongoing discussions on various Land Rover forums about offers of help being turned down. Mostly down to insurance issues and other PC nonsense. Saw a privately registered BV206 in Gloucester on news last night though. Seeing all the DROPS wagons in use I suspect we'll see the new Oshkosh tankers topping up bowsers next (assuming they're not all in hot sandy places)
  3. It's possible the xmember may have been done by the selling dealer, easier to source and quick fix for MOT. Land Rover were using particularly crap steel around that era (how many M to T reg series vehicles have you seen around?). The camo scheme is widely used by units on Salisbury Plain, got loads of piccies from Army2002 with everything in that scheme from Chally 2 down to Pinzies and LRs
  4. Wouldn't have been an Irish girl by chance would it? Hehe
  5. Nice job, camo scheme is used by training units here and BATUS, was used in Cyprus; does look good on a Land Rover To further 'de -civvy' it you need to put back military headlights and remove headlamp surrounds. See it also has a civvy rear cross member, however thats not so easy to change :-( Deffo a GS not a a CL so a previous owner has messed it up a bit. Notice bulkhead vents have been plated as well. Please don't take any of this as critisism, I'm a military LR anorak  just hope it helps your on going restoration. The most common military Land Rover has become a rarity as enthusiasts go for the unusual or supposedly sexy (like a 101 :-D), keep up the good work.
  6. Guy on LR4x4 says he has an Ex Northern Ireland ambulance he is looking to get rid of. LR4x4 Military
  7. I heard from the Irish contingent that it wasn't too bad. I was a tad concerned as there is tide mark about 5 foot up the wall in the Blue Bell pub accross the road from the Hop Farm from when the entire area was under water many years ago!
  8. If you look at the painting info in Clives Corner, you'll find chapter and verse about what was applied, when and why. DBG looks very good if the panels are straight but the gloss will show up any imperfections (my civvy 110 is micametallic and I keep it dirty to hide all the wobbly panels :schocked:) All the galvanised bits like the windscreen and cappings should be bare metal. Cammo hides a multitude of sins and is very easy to patch up. The matt finish fades badly but a 5l tin will keep you in resprays for about 5 years! You can get satin finish while not correct for age of vehicle is more durable. The cammed up one you posted is overdone IMHO. Just spray whole thing green and then apply broad band of black (matt out of a spray or blackboard paint) accross corners and band in middle. Should be 2/3 green 1/3 black. For more examples look in EMLRA garage
  9. They will fit first generation discos but not DII as they have a different PCD
  10. Just picked this up off Janes http://www.ianallanpublishing.com/catalog/cms.php?f=MLR.htm
  11. Cheers Guys Sitting here keeping up with events from rainy Ireland having supped a very nice Shiraz and some cheap Lidl's Pilsner. Powers nightcap to follow shortly. :thankyou: See you at Military Odyssey hopefully.
  12. Paul Clarke in MMVG owns one, knows most components intimately :-D May be along here in the next day or so.
  13. Moved to Ireland recently and now being hero worshiped by my 2 young nephews, Matthew (6) and Christian (4), picking them up once from school in a 101 helps :-D Picked Christian up last week from school and his first question was " Sean, have you got any army paint?" which lead to "will you paint my go cart like your 101?" Result was spraying session on 2 pedal carts and a trailer as shown below. Nightmare to spray but was worth it! Already been asked to fit aerials like on the 101.
  14. Only 7 built I think, mostly with Stage 1 V8 front ends. Ther rear half was based on CVR(T) running gear. Their history has been well documented in the various LR comics. One turned up in Iraq recently in a poor condition with contested ownership (now back in UK with REME) Awesome off road apparantly but very noisy and a habit of trying to go in a straight line (steering not linked to tracks) http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/Quarters/7413/lairdcent.html
  15. Those pics were taken 16 years ago, you can see my son in a couple of them, he's 20 now :-o I needed money at the time and the only consolation is that I sold it for more than I paid for it, £1500 I think. Also a pic of when I got it wrong off road in Belgium, in front of a bunch of jeep owners to make it worse. Thankfully there was no damage except to my self esteem
  16. Here's some piccies of a IIA GS I used to own and will forever regret selling, it was ex TA and only had 18000 on the clock.
  17. Wouldn't say these look soft. Trawled a couple of piccies off ARSSE to make up for my lack of forethought  The pics are of a HX77 being delivered and of a possible recovery variant. Looks like the guys who have been testing them like them. [attachment deleted by admin]
  18. Know it's not strictly historical but saw 2 brand new MAN HX60s and a HX77 on the M3 on Friday closely followed by a pair of Oshkosh HETs. Was all I could do to steer in a straight line I was so excited  (I know, I should really get a life but I can't help it!) Saw several convoys on way back on Sunday of usual stuff but including a couple of Renaults that I've seen one of before but never mentioned in mags or MV forums.
  19. I was sort of joking about the latin, translation please! :-D (Failed dismally at Latin, gave it up to do woodwork) Got the gist of the first one, lost on others :dunno:
  20. Been trawling through old show photos after being challenged on another forum and thought I'd cross post this one here. Taken at Army 2002 [attachment deleted by admin]
  21. Houses in Gillingham (Kent) have a covenant on them banning erection of stalls, fairgrounds and various other items which means even today you can't put a caravan on your drive.
  22. I've got some genuine Guinness labels somewhere from 40's 50's and 60's, I'll try and dig them out. Look nothing like a tax disk though but useage of a Guinness label seems to be a common story. Nice legend though from a time when some things were more relaxed and before ANPR cameras and big brother CCTV.
  23. There used to be a famous picture used by the AWDC on the dangers of kinetic recover. It was the result of a Range Rover being recovered by a Champ (I think). Basically, RR stayed put and hitch plus rusty bolts went thhrough windscreen, took out passenger headrest, creased roof and exited via back window :schocked:. Luckily there was no passenger at the time. :shake:

Had a wander round their yard about 18 years ago when we toured the area. Amazing place, took some very arty shots of piles of scrap!
