  1. What make is it ? ---- I have a Centec for vertical & horizontal - mint for a Centec , PRC Vertical thing , Original Emco - mint and , a BCA Jig borer that is Ex-University and hardly used. + two Boxford Shapers . I may go bigger , should have taken a absolute mint Bridgeport with a floor strewn with extras & tooling all for £1000 cash - just no storage at the time.
  2. That is a bit like re-inventing the wheel for Mr Koepfer , bit more developement work if you go off spur ! His machines I worked on that were built late 1960's / early '70's were quite something until the gearbox oil knocked a quick reverse or feed height clutch wire off. In comparison the present Koepfer machines are out of this world, but I suppose the basics are unchanged. I think I would rather gash out the conventional way for low volume , conventional tool-room practice I prefer , even using a shaper LoL I spent little time on Fellows gear shapers because they were so reliable , spent a fair bit of time at W.E. Sykes factory at Staines , machines and tooling - brilliant stuff their shapers & shavers were . New jobs - I tried to keep the production engineers on the right track !
  3. A hob is only any use if you have a suitable hobbing machine where the work rotates (indexing) + feeding along with the cutter , hobbing is production . It is not like jobbing (low quantity) a gear using a dividing head on a milling machine where you index each tooth for a pass of the cutter.
  4. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolled_homogeneous_armour I doubt if a Bren carrier was made of RHA ? When you are half exposed (unless crouched in the bilges) - why bother ? Qty. and cost , not a gun-tank as such. 7mm I would check on that too , I would expect a inch fraction. Material - I would guess on a common boiler-plate ?
  5. 7mm - stick weld , armour plate - without the benefit of a carbon analysis then a educated guess can be made , this would enable a most suitable rod to be selected. Standard weld procedure , prep- plate edges (grind for vee ) tack-up , lay weld beads so as not to distort, grind weld penetration that has blown through reverse side / clean vee , lay weld beads , finish dress with grinder.
  6. Probably a shelf Item at Nelson Stokes who are possibly the only brake seal manufacturer in UK ? http://www.nelsonstokes.com/products/repairkits.ashx
  7. Googling for some WW2 info. (not tank related) , this cropped up - does anybody know more ? fill in the history - why , date time-line etc. http://blog.nothingtoseehere.net/?p=138
  8. News from the DM + Sunday people - reporter does not state his source (only "One said") , plenty of bargains being flogged off , I think not - seems more a plug to suck a few more buyers in for elevated price stuff that is shelved. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/defence-chiefs-flog-military-kit-6049187'>http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/defence-chiefs-flog-military-kit-6049187'>http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/defence-chiefs-flog-military-kit-6049187 http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/defence-chiefs-flog-military-kit-6049187
  9. Looks like the Bar-O-Mix job for the type28 is on hold , need to start digging deep for the garage bunker ,, http://www.n-tv.de/panorama/Weltkriegspanzer-in-Ostsee-Villa-geborgen-article15433571.html
  10. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/07/03/german_army_battles_1943_panzer_hidden_kiel_pensioner_cellar/ I wish I could read and speak German , I suppose I can always use internet translation , if I only had the time LoL http://www.n-tv.de/panorama/Weltkriegspanzer-in-Ostsee-Villa-geborgen-article15433571.html
  11. You need to define the word *museum(s)* , I get the impression that state owned museums , military regimental type museums and in fact private museums (that have legal charity status) don't like private ownership museums or "collections" esp. if they are in the ownership of a single person. That statement carries good for a single vehicle or a case of hundreds of tracked / wheeled that has recently had high press coverage. Case of sod-em ,,
  12. Cook's Tow Law foundry would probably cast most / all , there was / is (AFAIK) the odd machining contractor in between such as Vickers (obviously controlled). I think you will find pins , in fact ALL pins for many years have been manuf. by Body Eng. http://www.bodyengineeringltd.co.uk/
  13. Obviously pre-dates the Warner ,, http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?18978-Warner-Socket
  14. Interesting , when f'kd - for Bellerby , Warcop , Otterburn or "rip-off" at Withams LoL http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/13355363.North_East_soldiers_train_with__enemy__Russian_tanks_as_tensions_grow_between_Moscow_and_West/
  15. If the scrap firm's decision makers had used their joint loaf on the Churchill tanks , then they could have obtained thousands of Euro value in business advert / propaganda for zilch.
  16. Keep "clicking" on for "suggested prices" , DT seems to be talking the ££ skywards LoL http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/industry/11374426/From-second-hand-boots-to-armoured-tanks-Britains-military-surplus-for-sale.html?frame=endScreen
  17. ISTR , that most in UK are relatively safe , however rest of world they were sliced in half before disposal - so many are apparently cut-N-shut ,, or is that rumour ?

  19. It is a game driven in recent years by forums such as this one , sale valuations on asking prices - if you don't ask high , then you don't get high. Conventional cars of most types , you can pay for expert opinion and prior to purchase inspection / valuation , as has always been the case with the better stuff. Unfortunately most military - is very specialized for type & time-line , those competent "specialists" by nature tend to be very narrow-minded , they can't see the big picture. Therefore the financial danger (unless you build up slowly) - try opening a door and entering a dark room..

  21. You can spend lots of ££ for a Trelawny needle scaler , for my money the top $ is a Von Arx (Swiss) . Having said that about 3 years ago I picked up a Taiwanese manufactured (copy of a Trelawny in-line) in fact sold under ther Compair automotive (cheaper) range , a model APT114D (probably obsolete model) for £30 - I use thermal gloves (useless in winter as hardly thermal, I obtain better now) , vibration levels were quite low. I don't think there would be any problem from vibration white finger. Times have moved on , so has equipment - I recall doing my turn "dry-dock" and having a go with the real primitive scalers & scrablers. Incidently the top-sides were done by the lascar gang with hand hammers in tune to the serang who used a sledge LoL Stripped aux. engines such Rustons , many parts were put into a barrel with caustic soda with a steam hose passing in to boil, a young paniwalla placed some big-end brasses in and it stripped the white-metal , as a junior eng. that was something useful that I then learned - and my first job as a apprentice was operating the Butler shaper in the brass foundry of a BR workshop roughing out the white metal..
  22. There are from modern methods (BUT to be paid for) :- http://www.dirdim.com/port_featuredprojects.php?fileName=fp_jeepframereproduction There will be blueprints out their from earlier sources , such as the original manufacturers in USA , Hotchkiss Drawings will also have filtered out - BUT again it would cost you . What is wrong with a steel tape , steel ruler , vernier and traditional lofting from your own chassis ? The only problem being - where exactly are your main "true-lengths" within the manufacturing drawing tolerance and that would only be a must (for accurate reproductions) if you were batch manufacturing components and for a full frame jig welding fixture / trunion. The same is applicable to the Bantam chassis scanning , high in BS ,,
  23. Well the proposed asking ££ is high BUT will it take off ?? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3078401/Rocket-sale-needs-one-careful-owner-Russian-missile-went-SIX-times-speed-sound-set-fetch-50-000.html I suppose "Aviation" is the correct Section ? moderators LoL

What intrigues me , is the survival capsule , some sort of rocket ejector mechanism (possibly fired a fraction before impact, super air-bag style) or surrounded by nicked Chobham armour. Doubtfull that this capsule is a hoax LoL
  25. When the truck was first road registered as UCU971Y , then UC = London C alternatively CU = South Shields It seems it is CU therefore DVLA South Shields would hold the records , however all local offices ISTR are now closed & show in total run from Swansea HQ. Almost certainly when the registration form application was sent / presented at counter, then they would have needed to see the all important "Release Notes" and a photo-copy would be taken , this would state the mil. VRM and chassis No. Looks like a DVLA Swansea search needed ,,
