  2. ============ Hi I am more or less in broad agreement , however I don't understand the Mercan Jeep market. Can you tell me , would a concourse WW2 Ford Jeep be expected to have all parts with a Ford script ? original nomenclature plate ? What about vehicles that may have been returned to USA from such as France or New Zealand & have been through a "rebuild" , well let us say a reincarnation of some sort of Jeep from refurbished shelved parts , IMHO there is no way that these can have Mint status ever - OK to obtain at lesser valuation , drive and have fun with. Hence my first post when I stated , I would prefer a genuine all Hotchkiss in mint condition. Can you please give a few $ typical prices for WW2 era Jeeps ?

  7. Now back-tracking into that lost tunnel LoL http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-08-31/poland-backtracks-on-nazi-gold-train-find-asks-for-army-help
  8. QUOTE from the DM. Holding up an old black and white wartime photo showing a man and two young boys standing outside a house with a tiled roof, Slowikowski said: 'This house used to overlook the track. 'From the top window you could see everything coming and going on the railway line. On the 5th of May 1945, the family living there were all shot dead and the house razed to the ground. It was three days before the Soviets took the town. In a way looks something like a Renault Dauphine ?

  10. ======== Scroll down for photograph of drilling-rig :- http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/nazi-gold-train-russia-could-6350129 There is a possibility (think positive) , if IF these toolpushers have been drilling on sound information and broken through the roof of a cavern , then a conventional camera probe could have been lowered. https://twitter.com/Exen/status/637212825266593792/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc^tfw It is a standard type rig as used for drilling on top of a quarry face , bore hole abt. 4" dia.
  11. SOURCE. http://io9.com/has-ground-penetrating-radar-discovered-the-nazi-gold-t-1727432557 ============================ Improbable Andrew Liptak 8/29/15 10:33am As a geophysicist who actually works with GPR: Seriously? First, the train is going to have to be physically buried. If it’s simply in an old tunnel that’s been sealed off with a big air gap around the train, GPR isn’t going to see it at all. This means that somebody dug a hole and actually dropped the train into it. Maybe they dug a trench next to the tracks and just pushed it over sideways. Second, being able to say definitively that it has gun turrets is pretty dubious. It’s going to depend on how big they are and how they’re oriented relative to the rest of the train, but unless they’re pretty big and sticking out solidly from the rest of the mass, they’re going to be really tough to discern. Given that the Nazis would presumably want to recover the train at some point, burying the entire train in the ground seems like a terrible idea.
  12. I suppose security depends on the situation , I think this is still in situ. - perhaps not as it has wheels , better check when near. http://www.newmp.org.uk/article.php?categoryid=100&articleid=1347&displayorder=16
  13. Looks a bit of a antique , possibly not so in 1914 ? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-34085922
  14. This radar record shows the feature (to the left of “A”) that was interpreted to represent four crushed, stacked cars. SOURCE. https://www.soils.org/discover-soils/story/unearthing-mysteries-ground-penetrating-radar ================ Obviously to a untrained interpreter - then he will see readily observe a bogie mounted super-cannon on rail-lines complete with platform , or even crates of gold , high definition not needed LoL
  15. I know absolutely nothing about GPR (however in the past I have held CSWIP qualifications for NDT) So I Google on GPR , and "disturbancies" LoL ---------- How deep can GPR “see” to locate targets? Depth of GPR penetration depends on the material being surveyed and also upon the antenna frequency being used. For instance, GPR will penetrate ice, rock, soil and asphalt differently due to each material’s unique electrical properties. Lower frequency antennas will generally penetrate deeper, but there is a loss in resolution with the drop in frequency. Soil conditions can vary greatly, which in turn affects GPR penetration. In general, dry sandy soils with little salt content return excellent survey resolution, but heavy clay-based soils are difficult to penetrate with GPR. In some situations, penetration depth may be limited to a few feet or less within clays, whereas pipes residing in sandy soils could be detected at depths up to 30 feet. Your GSSI Application Specialist can help you find the equipment that is right for your project and profession. SOURCE. http://www.geophysical.com/gssifaqs.htm However , in one press report - I did see photographs of a drilling-rig in use - so perhaps they have been getting the probe near , time will tell.

  17. Then a guide of £10,000 starting - for a absolute minta , BUT must be worth that bit extra - go to a show and stroll the lines of MA MB types , you don't ever see a MC type , MC / M38 or M38/A1 in mint condition - that would be what it is all about IMHO , well worth the extra $ because it will be RARE
  18. You seem to be asking for confirmation that a MC should be knocked back on $ valuation because it is not WW2 era. IMHO a minta M38 should carry a premium for Korea era. also greater possibility of less probablity of MALT type bitsa. "Some" would claim a gen WW2 Jeep a better proposition than a Hotchkiss , self - give me a minta Hotchkiss for same ££ / condition. I would say rate it at minta Hotchkiss or a bit more to secure..
  19. If IF it ever existed - it went to Gib. Press silly season , easy reading for deck-chairs , a Polish local tourism economy boosted too , annual type event LoL http://www.theolivepress.es/spain-news/2009/06/17/nazi-gold-train-bound-for-gibraltar/
  20. Are you measuring correctly ? modern pistons are cam ground oval , when at operating temperature - they will be true. With modern machine tools , pistons and bores nominal dia. are tighter held - they are more like peas out of a pod. IIRC letter graded are to .0005" , for selective assembly to bore , doubt if you will find now.
  21. Greater chance of locating Supermarine Spitfires burried in Burma LoL
  22. ================ RN may have their own word , I was MN so don't know for certain - probably "manifest" , there would be documentation esp. if ship owned (listed on ship "inventory" ? ) as opposed to transported. Important docs - filed away in a Admiralty basement for ever , try a FOI , probably hit the ££ free limit http://forum.wordreference.com/threads/bill-of-lading-vs-shipping-manifest.2198185/
  23. No speculation , the primary source evidence is in the film. 1. A tandem lift is the most dangerous - one crane will always reach the tipping point before the other , one crane goes and both cranes go - that is on the basis of "firm and level ground" . One crane reached / exceeded its stability margin , because a suitable tandem lift allowance had not been factored in. 3. Pontoon mounted (obviously much worse situation than on firm and level ground) , mobile , crawler or carrier mounted - the maximum overturning moment of a crane(s) should not exceed 2/3 of the restoring moment of the crane / barge combination .
  24. Chassis looks excellent condition , when you consider 100 years old , chalet must have been well off the coast ?
