  4. Though most types of German militaria are most collectable from buttons to vehicles, headgear has a major following and crusher caps are much sought after along with the panzer beret shown earlier in the film clip two very unique items of headgear worn by german forces. Ashley

    Big ray

These were known as Pals battalions i.e the Salford Pals (as basically they all knew one another wether they were neighbours/ workmates/brassband members/sunday leauge footballers etc etc) and as stated entire familys/streets/villages were decimated of menfolk, if i remember one family lost 10 immediately related menfolk during WW1 Soon after during the pre/2 World War period and afterwards local regiments never re-cruited in thier particular counties and as far as i know this is still the norm ? Ashley

  17. When i first brought home Christina i had told her about my collection of German militaria but i think she expected an old box with a few badges in like the residents of the nursing home where she worked. Only to be shocked by a display of (at that time) 100 bit sof headgear on shelves above the picture rail and frames of badges on the wall also the odd picture and print, but once her eyes nearly fell out of her head as she worked untill 10 pm at night and on comming home the lounge had a bout 10 fully grown men? (all collectors ) watching Cross of Iron wearing a german helmet each and badges, field gear etc for some reason she just said Hiya and went to bed only to question me in the morning Though it doesn`t bother her the militaria is not on general display and when available is kept in a locked room. 24. Just quickly.... There appears to be some writing next to the star ?? possibly soldier art or unit emblem, also it would appear that the soldier third from left still has the tri-colour on his helmet which should of (officially) been removed in April 1940 the theatre is hard to detirmine and more study is required.
