  5. and I worked on No.4 in 1980. I did not think to keep note of all the vehicles, my spanners were laid on Richard
  6. Clive, The Fort H Pigs were re-numbered in the WB range, I worked on them in 86/87. 26BK37, I was there when the turret was fitted, a box had to be made for the roof first. It was used for training nearby  Richard
  7. Clive, While you are Pig number crunching, here are a few for you; 04BK01 chassis no. 20401 19BK01 both these are / were Mk1 This one is a Mk2; 26BK37 All older than the one you have, but fate not known since I worked on them whilst still in service. Richard
  8. Michael, I see you have posted another pic of the flywheel. I can see enough now to think that it is a Bedford flywheel, so timing marks will be appropriate for the engine. Richard
  9. Neil, Back in the Seventies, we used to do falling plate knockout shoots at Hythe, when I worked for the army workshops, it was an event where the army ran the range and the civvies shot. We very soon found that you did not aim for the centre of the plate. And looking in front of me now, there is a shield for the winning team in 1975 :-) Richard
  10. Ahh....more to the story....I believe a unit had recovered the vehicle and had lowered it to the ground and unhooked, forgetting to chock the wheels or apply the handbrake. It then shot off backwards in to said tank .
  11. Jack, Long story :-D We were changing over the lifting boom and winch from another of these Foden recovery trucks. One had been bent when the vehicle ran back in to a Cheiftain apparantly. The replacement was from another that had been scrapped, having rolled over in Norway, we were cutting it up and salvaging main assemblies from it. Wish you had not asked now, don't you :-P Richard
  12. Jack, Better late than never......just added some to my gallery file. Richard
  13. You little devil, Clive :-D. Much like me winding up those call centre operators from India, etc. who always call when you are getting a meal. I keep them going long enough by getting them to repeat everything, then spelling it, until they realise they are on a loser. Richard
  14. Clive, Ballata is rubberised canvas belting, used for driving machinery, but nowadays more often seen as exhaust flexy straps.......or Land Rover axle check straps. Richard....the First
  15. Jack, My father used to compete in target shooting with .303" and 7.62mm rifle. As children, my brother and I used to go along from early 1950's onward. We used to go to many army ranges around Sussex and Kent, also to Bisley Camp. A local one was Hythe Ranges, back in the 1900's it was the School of Musketry, the range was all shingle, being next to the sea and you would often spot a live cartridge in amongst the pebbles, so nothing unusual, they having been dropped. One day we found one, a .303" and it was pre-First World War, a bit dented but not corroded. Richard
  16. Paul, That is the other one then. It was at the Museum of Kent Life near Maidstone. Believe the TV company had two of them in case one went down, I presume. Richard
  17. Hi John, If you need an exhaust silencer, I have a NOS one. Richard
  18. Clive, Not sure of its correct title, somewhere I have a prewar pamphlet on Water Purification, which I sent you some details from, for the article. This unit predates that, the only names that spring to mind is Stella and another beginning with M??????? Date.......possibly around 1919-1925 :? Richard the First
  19. Hi Pop, Is that the one that used to be displayed in the Hop Farm at Beltring? Am sure it was still there this year. Kewelde
