  1. Jack, Rather unfortunate initials..........S.L.A.G., I am sure the female members will not be happy with that one  Richard
  2. Clive, Something to do with machine guns, that could make the link with automotive as MG's could be mounted on vehicles. Richard
  3. Clive, Ummm........I know they are some sort of retainer or fastener, must be something obsure, because I do not recollect coming across them. Richard
  4. Clive, Part of a dentist's kit of torture equipment ? Richard
  5. Hi Clive, I have a vision of you at a certain MVT show at Popham some years ago, when the cider must have flowed a little too freely :-D Anyway, to the subject, I will be coming as a visitor for a couple of days, with Neil R, so will look out for you. I still call it Stourpaine, as the first time we entered it was held there. Incidentally, they used to sell mulled cider from an old double decker bus there, excellent stuff on a cool evening  Richard
  6. There you are, Pete. Easy. Now click on the green paper clip under the photo and a full screen image appears. Richard
  7. John, There is a much easier way than how Jack is saying. When you go to write a message, below the message box it says "Additional Options", click on that , then click on "browse", this brings up "My Documents", "My Pictures" or whereever you store you photos on your computor. Just going to give it a try to prove a point, if it does not work, I am going to crawl back under my stone  Pic should be of Green Archer which Lee was interested in, a few weeks back. 8. Clive, Know doubt Borat was with the dogs then? :-D
  9. Hi Buster, I have been a Friend of the Tank Museum for around 20 years or so, when it was launched. Not able to participate in helping out due to commitments and distance from Dorset. Have taken advantage of some of the visits organised by them, namely to the British military sales exhibitions and demonstrations, live firing at Lulworth and Warminster, etc. and lectures at the museum. The newsletter magazine is very good too. Richard
  10. Lee, When I checked later I found it had not worked. I'm sure I have recently cracked it on how to submit a photo from My Documents, but now cannot seem to do it. Clicked on "insert image", but that did not help. :? I know originally you had to use photobucket or summat, but since the revamp I posted a pic, maybe the site has been altered again? Richard
  11. Lee, Here is a photo of a Green Archer unit after cosmetic restoration at our REME Workshop about 12 years ago. It was for the Rotunda Museum , but now in Firepower and set up with axles removed. Richard
  12. You got to Beltring, it is not that much further on, it is just before the Channel Tunnel
  13. Rich, When I used to ride my M20 to shows, it was a civilian pudding basin helmet (legal with BS mark inside) painted olive drab, DR full length coat and DR boots. Not really a uniform as thousands of motorcyclists in the post war era, dressed in the same practical kit. Richard
  14. Phil, Another Ashfordian......we must be neighbours. The Woodchurch Wings and Things is a first class event, the visiting aircraft list is impressive this year. Always a good showing of MV's there too. Richard
  15. Clive, About 6 miles southeast of Ashford on the A20, in Kent. You could bring Borat along ......... although he says that he will not share a tent with you :-D Richard
  16. Sorry, Mark...........probably take my Bedford QL Richard
  17. One of the reasons for altering the cab top half was to give it a bigger diameter hip ring to go with the gun mount. There was one of these in the Danish club's camp at Beltring last year. Richard
  18. Here is another one, see you all there. Congrats on your prize at Beltring, John. Richard
  19. Alan, All I can tell you is that EY would be prior to 67-68, when those Mk5 cranes with FU were introduced. The 760 is around 14 litres and visually different from the 11.3. Some 760 had inline FI pumps and others had DPA type, but all 760 had air compressor on engine, whereas from my memory all 11.3 powered Militants had the compressor driven from the gearbox. Richard
  20. Ahh......spent the last 32 years working with military vehicles full time, my mind is full of useless info Sometimes it gets triggered off as in this case. Richard
  21. Pete, Your spy, (I think he may answer to the name David?) was correct. A look of horror came over my face as that someone came down the ramp towards my wagon. It was a lesson learnt for him and luckily it was only an oil drum that suffered a slight ding. It makes me worry what else your spy has seen Richard
  22. Well I was there, for 8 days in America Field, although did not get around as much as I would have liked due to recovering from a foot injury. Did see Lee and John at Essex Armour, also Hanno (McSpool), Borat and his friend Cliv. Borat proudly showed me his T-shirt advertising Air Khazistan (?). Apologies for not seeking out forum members, but what with my problem, the heat and hosting friends from Australia, time flew by. I did actually witness the arrival of Neil's Stalwart in the America Field though. Just got home this morning, deciding to leave on Monday as it is not such a rush then, and only a 30 mile run before the heat started to rise again. Richard
  23. Hi Allan, It is primarilly a Bridging crane used by Royal Engineers. We knew them as the Mk.5, the earlier one had similar cab and running gear as Militant Mk1 but with beams instead of springs on rear bogie. The Mk5 engine is much bigger than the earlier one, being the AV760, of 215 bhp against the old 11.3 litre, 150 bhp Militant. When working in REME workshops, I spent some time repairing and testing cranes, these and the earlier Militant, also the rather dated RAF ones which still used the Matador engine but with a later cab. They lift a max. of 7 tons on wheels and 10 tons on blocked......that is over the rear at shortest radius. Going by the census number on yours, "EY", I would think it is an early one as a lot were in the "FU" range. All up weight was 26 tons. Richard
  24. Sorry Jerry, I missed this message last night.............you can only test the syncro of the two sets of points (or as I call it, phasing), with the distributor removed from the engine, you also require the test jig as shown in the EMER. A battery and test lamp can be used, obviously bulb same voltage as battery, easy as that! It may be better for you to back track to see what you have done to cause this to happen. Best of luck. Richard
  25. Jerry, OK, something to work on now. Assume you have done everything correctly. Now this bang on over run may not be due to a leak in exhaust, but weak mixture on idle settings. Might pay to richen the two needles, not forgetting to move them equally as per the EMER. Richard
