  1. With the vehicles I drive, you can drive if the ABS is working, you can drive if it isn't. The only time the vehicle becomes unservisable is if the ABS is intermittent, because then you don't know what the braking performance is. Wet mud and fallen debries such as leaves has the same effect as snow and tce. The closest I've come to aciendents in bad weather is when at the last moment with the vehicle almost at a standstill the ABS picks up a locked wheel and releases the system.
  2. My poor old Divscovery 200tdi is going out to grass. The replacment will be a 300tdi, which has ABS. We al know ABS is a two edged sword, so can anyone suggest a way to temporarily disable the sytem if the situation requires it? The idea I've been having is a gaurded switch in the power line to the pump, anyone know if that will work?

  4. You can get down to the Bovington area by train, floods permitting! :-D From Gatwick, which is Crawley area Surrey, if your looking on Google earth there are good links all over the south of England. Depending on how long you have you could get up to South London for the Imperial War Museum and Chelsea for the Natonal Army museum within a couple of hours. Would be worth looking at the National Express coach site. There a reasonably inexpensive way of getting about, and often hve better coverage than rail for similar journey times. Gatwick airport is about 30 miles south of London and the same from the south coast to give you a perspective. About 130 miles from Gatwick to Bovington.
  5. Oh LOOK!! There's a squadron of Pigs flying over!! :nut: It isn't actually TFL that decide what is what it is contractors! Hence we still have the load of S*ite. They wern't stupid and made sure the late not lamented Livingstone was done up proper so that any cancellation pf LEZ or congestion charge would cost a fortune. What ever has been suplied by the DVLA, if it is utility no chance. You have to go back to DVLA and change the body type. There is one off chance, if you do the research. Back when Land Rover's were new a farmer was done for speeding in a commercial vehicle. The court overturned the offence on the grounds that a Land Rover was a 'Dual Purpose ' vehicle. If you can find the case and the judgement you have an argument as a precedent wa sset, which has up to now been accepted.
  6. Welcome in Andy. Forts are military vehicles in there own way.
  7. Welcome in. Have you looked at the ambulance gallery?
  8. At least you know exactaly where he is! Welcome in.
  9. Have a good rummage around the charity shops. Remeber at that time clothing would have been hard worn, patched and probably hand me down.
  10. Ca va Mon V! I have a Dodge WC51 in Force 135 markings, and also inherited Carol Le Marquand's Katy the WC54.:-D
  11. Welcome in Charles, a busy year ahead for all of us, hope you can get to some shows.
  12. Happy New Year all! And a busy one no doubt with the Centenary of the Great War and 70th Anniversary of D- Day. But!! Plans are starting for 2015. The Jersey Military Vehicle Club are planning an event at the West Show Feild St Peter's Villiage for 2015. In addition to the public show there are also plans for various visits to bunkers etc, and probably school visits. If you want to see grown men quail, be parked about 300 meters from a school full of kids when it is announced to them a convoy of vehicles wil be visiting. The noise was deafening. Any one intrested I'll let you know as soon as I know anything.
  13. If your Grandfather had any intrest in horses, he'd have been (I was about to say 'Jumped' ) very keen to see Samur. They came up with all sorts of new fangled things like the 'Forward Seat' demonstrated. It would have ben near impossible to take that jump 'Old English Style'. Must have been a nice bit of R&R for him.
  14. Intrestin Model T radio truck. I'd love to do one of those.
