  1. I got over the battery problem by just buying a slip in battery box and soldering wires on. A couple of quid from Maplin's and such like. Take lamp to make sure the box fits.
  2. Which war? :-D The design carried on for a long time. The first dry cell torch was pattented 1898. During the First world war there were mainly wooden bodied lamps with a bulls eye lens, though these carried on to the 1950's, but some metal cased ones were produced. I'd give from mid 1920's on.
  3. Welcome in Steve. Fascinating pictures and a story not to be forgotten.
  4. Dear Mr Banner Thank you for your email received on 30/5/14. Your email reference number is . From 10th April 2014 changes to legislation will now allow drivers who have passed a driving test in a vocational vehicle, with automatic transmission, to have that entitlement upgraded to manual transmission, if they have previously passed a test in another vehicle with manual transmission. You will need to request the upgrade from DVLA by letter, quoting your full driver number, full name and address. I am sorry this can not be done online. Please send the letter to: VOC DCS Casework D6 DVLA Swansea SA99 1ZZ If your driving licence is required for driver training, employment etc. in the near future you should not send your driving licence with your letter. I'll go to top of our stairs!!
  5. You and me both! Contact DVLA , VOC, DCS Casework DG, DVLA Swansea SA99 1ZZ. The scource of the info was the management at work. So no reason to belive it isn't genuine. I have e mailed an enquiry to DVLA and am awaiting the reply.
  6. Will you youths keep the noise down! Congratulations!
  7. Yeah, I sat through 7 hours on Wednesday, Learn How To Drive a Bus in a Classroom! Was asked would I consider joining the training team. Politly declined, if I teach I have to belive in what I teach. Does anywhere else in Europe bother?
  8. General purpose lamp. The red filter can be used as a rear light on a bike, but also to protect night vision. Similar styles were used on the railway and by the police.
  9. OUCH!! 15% plus the dreaded VAT is the ususal.
  10. I'd suggest NFU, they seem very switched on. Another one that have a open attitude is Hiscox Insurance. Might be worth contacting another restoration buissness and asking them.
  11. The whole system seems to have gone into melt down! My D licence was taken on an automatic vehicle, however, now , because I have a manual car licence at NO COST  My D catergory will be updated to include manual.
  12. Its off the ***** planet
  13. Probaly around £1500 to £2000, at that you'd still get a lot of intrest.
  14. I do like that palce! Puts the much vaunted Leeds to shame!
  15. £300! S**T! At that price you'd have a riot! Me in front with a 2x4 to make sure others were dissuaded!
  16. I've got the thin palstic sheet used for adverts on the side of buses. Rests nicley on the top of the frame, very light and dosne't damage fabric. Nixwax rug proof is very good stuff, stain resistant as well.
  17. Anyone know if this set had a 12 volt powerpack at any time? Mine currently runs on 240v ac. I'm taking it to Normandy as legend has it the sets were dropped to the Resistance to allow them to listen to BBC broadcasts, also used by forces for same purpose. This one seems to have all the right marks for an early wartime production. Mine has a grey finish to the front.
  18. I'll take a shopping list! :-D
