  1. What sort of tyres did the original gun cart have on it's wheels?
  2. What a splendid idea. Please keep us posted.
  3. Stumbled upon this thread so thought I’d give it a go… all fantasy of course Begin with an armoured car, a 'Roller' of WW1 pattern ex middle east. This would be a goer complete with original sand in every crack and cranny. A Crossley Indian pattern armoured car – just for something different and also a goer. Comes with a basket and snake to frighten the curious. Back to WW1: A genuine wartime Holt caterpillar as used on the western front. It goes when IT feels like it which isn’t often at nearly 100 years of age. Also, a Durkopp artillery tractor. Has never gone – will have to manufacture all the parts I need. Currently sunk up to its axles in the back yard. Everyone loves a wreck. Three WW1 lorry chassis – kitted out for different purposes – lorry/troop transport/anti-aircraft De Dion – lovely truck to drive. Bussing – unique and a troop transport of huge proportions. Runs like a Swiss watch. Tilling Stevens – a unique ‘high-voltage’ vehicle From between the wars: First a Thornycroft Hathi gun tractor – because they came to Australia and my grandfather was in charge of testing them for suitability to Australian conditions Second a Scammell with tank transporter attached for carting around one of the really early British or German tanks. You always need something on the drawing board – even if it is fantasy.
  4. Simply fascinating. Thanks for dredging up this old thread; have enjoyed the plot and especially todays video. 1915 & WOW.
  5. Where-else on the net will you find a discussion about materials suitable to replace those from a motor designed 100 years ago and built soon after. The discussion on 'head-tightening sequence' for these old motors was another classic. By following these threads there is much is to be learnt; be it technique or technical detail. However the 'gem-discussions' are soon lost in a sea of thousands of messages. Is there a way of collecting said 'nuggets' in some sort of compendium? At the moment I tend to write them down in a notebook!! Very low tech...
  6. Marcel. As a Peugeot enthusiast from old 404/504/306/407. Am hanging out for another installment... Any news?
  7. What's news? ANy updates on the Halley?
  8. They say you can top-coat straight over kurust however... I would be inclined to primer. Top coats stick well to primer...
  9. The West Yorkshire Steel site has a nice table of mechanical properties for different grades of steel if anyone is interested. I dare say I will be going down the EN24 track too some time in the near future on a similar motor. Did you use 'T' type steel? Regards Robert
  10. Will they salvage or will they explode it?
  11. Extraordinary really. "...We've done what we came to do and that's that..." Lions; all of them.
  12. Understanxd the 'gritineye' concept but have to say my first thought is an image of John Wayne...
  13. Knew one of those flyers. Wish now I had spent more time with him then. "What ho!"
  14. 'Redherrings'... the name seemed apt for a cobbled-together footy team whose members seem to collect more than their share of injuries during the season. The internet-based 'Toyota Dream Team Competition' is an Australian national passtime - 1st game of the AFL season this Friday... Go cats (and err redherrings). Wish me luck. Robert
  15. 'Apocalypse now' for me with the music turned up 'real loud'. Also have a soft spot for Ben Hur.
  16. And an adjustable load-stabilising frame at back of tray? Very interesting trailer.
  17. Wow. I'd like to know more about the Latil. Perhaps you could start your own thread? Great find. Robert. (I'm so impressed for a few moments I forgot this was a Napier thread!)
  18. Wholeheartedly agree. There comes a point with rust where the integrity of the part is compromised. It is really good to see how other people come to terms with this. To replace or to weld? How and why.
  19. Do you suppose the 2nd photo is of an ammunition lorry?
  20. Nice length of track. Good track is getting scarce here as more people renovate Australian MG carriers. Though one renovator I know did manage to find enough NOS to almost completely retrack his Carrier.
  21. The lack of a seal doesn't seem to tally with the spit and polish of the regiment!
  22. Well done. For years my wife has thought me completely mad bringing home buckets of old bolts from clearing sales...
