  1. No it’s fully commercial it will be ultimately registered as a special vehicle. As I understand it all lorries currently being registered whatever the use have to have an MOT and in order they need a tachograph which is where the trouble starts.
  2. It’s all about the calibration of the tachograph. Somebody has suggested registering it as a gun bus which is mot exempt. Getting the reg no. Then it’s all straight forward.
  3. I thanks I did speak to them and they were very po faced but from her tone I thought that there was possibly a way round this so I sort of planned to send off the VTG1 and see what happens. I have booked it in for an MOT in September and so have plenty of time. Thanks for the advice it is appreciated. David
  4. I have just bought a Renault Maxter from Witham's. I am filling in the VTG1 form and have run into a brick wall. does anybody know how to get round this: In order to register it the DVLA say it needs an MOT In order to get a MOT it needs the Tachograph Calibrated In order to get the Tachograph Calibrated it needs an Registration number. DVSA tester says its impossible to pass MOT without Tacho ticket even though the tacho calibration is to take place at the same place and time as MOT. Is there a work around?
  5. I did this a few years ago and I now want to register another one but I can’t remember which form to use. I plan to go for special vehicle. I remember I needed to send photos. Any help much appreciated.
  6. Thanks, it was bison who started all this because they couldn’t find the part without the chassis number. I gave it to them and they said computer says no thus needing the OEM part numbers. The odd think I we pulled it out with the tractor drove it up and down the road a few times the clutch is a lot better now. Still needs replacing but not so urgent. I used to work on Rolls Royce Diesel engined pumps. They weren’t that reliable & the parts were difficult. We went over to hr6 listers and Dormans.
  7. Hi, does anybody know what the part numbers are for a complete clutch plate bearing etc for my 1991 DAF 45 150 military For some reason DAF’s computer won’t recognise my chassis number nor the reg. I don’t want an expensive OEM clutch just the usual motor factors parts any help would be much appreciated. Also does anybody know how heavy the gearbox is. It looks like I will have to do this on my own in the middle of a field where it is now stuck. David.
  8. What is the best time to arrive? I think I will take my DAF if er in doors allows me out!!
  9. We use a 250cfm with Glass this comes as coarse and fine. For super delicate apart from soda there is crushed walnut Husks. We pay £200.00/ pallet which is 40 bags. Silica sand is banned if it gets in the lungs it causes cancer. David.
  10. Can anybody tell me what type of fluid goes in the clutch of my Leyland DAF 45. Also can it be bled with the cab up?
  11. My DAF has been standing for a while and I went to start it the other day, It started first time as usual all sounding quite normal. It ran as usual while the brakes built up air but It stalled when I attempted to move it. It wont turn over at all the solenoid just clicks, the batteries were new last year and have 28v any body any idea what to do next bearing in mind the lorry is parked close to a wall and the brakes are on lifting the cab is not an option I thought of attaching a jump lead direct to the starter motor will that do any harm? David
  12. I went there last year whilst working on the Island I finally got in after many years of trying It was a lovely museum and the workshop at the back was open too. Afterwards has a chat with the boys outside who were trying to sell me a Scammel artic and lowloader. Shame it has closed if i remember right they built up a sherman by welding two old halves together some feat and miles of stainless mig wire
  13. My old woodwork teacher at school told us the extra 100hp came when they decided to remove the cylinder head gasket. True or false? l always wondered!
  14. I saw it going South near M25 on Tuesday.
  15. Do you think that any of those engines are any good and what sort of money are they worth?
  16. Have you tried Renault Commercial Vehicles? They must have a record just a thought
  17. The LEZ dosn't apply to anything with a petrol engine. so a Snatch would be fine so would be a rapier 127. You can try using it if it is ok you wont hear anything if not then you will get the letter giving you a month to get it compliant but no fine. The letter is the death knell because that means that it will never be able to enter the LEZ again I think the charge for a land rover would be £100.00 because of its size. There are very few exceptions the rules were drawn up by Ken Livingstone not known for his love of motor vehicles.
  18. I have to get something collected from Aberdeen and bringing to London weight about 25KG Parcel line want £120.00 I have tried that uship web site but they suggest £125.00 + £11 admin fee. Is 120 reasonable?
  19. Does anybody know if you can get the keys and see if the vehicles start i am interested in the Nissan Pathfinder and maybe another DAF but which one? I was looking at the Drops but they all look a bit rough. I am planning to go on Friday afternoon.
  20. Rex Cadman will also do the letter. I think that you will need an MOT as well and evidence of insurance.
  21. Ebay is always like that I often find that items that seem cheap compared with others when the postage charge is added become more expensive than those with postage included. As you say the "postage" often amounts to a jiffy bag and a second class stamp.
  22. On one of the wheeler dealers programmes I think the TR6 there was a split in the tank and the guy who repaired it used a steam cleaner prior to soldering in a new section. When I worked on has mains we used to purge them with nitrogen maybe this is another option.
  23. "For a few Quid" Or a drink or a bale of hay for the horses these are all considered commercial/ reward. Also this could well invalidate your insurance so not only will you risk being done for not having a licence but also not having insurance. Possibly if you have an accident then because your licence is not valid then you may not be insured either. The Drivers cpc is not just a card but it is logged by VOSA too. I feel that the EU and our government are makeing it more and more difficult for us to drive HGVs for non commercial reasons.
