I can't argue with most that is being said. But I wonder who this new rich person will be, who will stump up maybe £4K- £5K and then invite people in free?

Steve it sounds like you have bought a trials chain KA28/7. The MAC chain is 1/2"x 5/16". Ron PS. The book quotes 108 pitches. Speak to Jason is the best option. https://the-chain-man.co.uk/

I can't argue with any of that. I wanted to speak out regarding the "Without my truck there'd be no show" comments. 2-3 years ago, one guy didn't like the £10 increase then, because his huge truck cost £3 a mile or something in fuel. It was his choice to own a huge truck. Everything is getting so much dearer, What with Brexit, Covid and even worse "Putin" . I hate my gas/electricity bills. But unfortunately I have no choice with that.
-
Covid and Brexit hasn't helped of course. With professional traders expected to make an itinerary of their stock, before and after the event I guess. Plus what happens about the goods the Europeans buy and take home? Are they likely to be taxed on them? Dutch friends of mine have taken back jumble and ebay purchases that I receive for them without any hassle, but is this normal or just luck of the draw. It's all bound to put foreigners off I'm sure. Another issue that has been nagging at me, is that some people think that the money they pay to attend, either as a trader or exhibiter or walk in punter is pure profit in the pocket of the organizers. I wonder if most people know how many hundreds of thousands of pounds it costs to set up such a show. I'm thinking more people will not want to pay the extra cost for what might be only half a show....A sort of snowball effect. Ron

Civilian Triumph bars had a reduced end from 1" to 15/16" for the unique Triumph twistgrip. WW2 military Triumphs had standard 1" and 7/8" bars. Ron

You are thinking of Ariel Lex. Last 2-3 contracts of 3HW went from standard 1" bar to 7/8". PM me Roberto, I might be able to help. Ron

I also have the war time "Para" picture. I guess they used it in post war advertising as the ML carried on in near military trim for another 2-3 years. Regards Ron

Dave's last post was about 8 years ago. I think I know who he is, but you'd have to PM him for an engine number. Ron- 39 replies

Well a while coming, but well done that man. In the meantime, I've also managed to find the correct original clips for mine, although I do prefer the Harley type. Ron

question Welbike registry / history how many exst ?
Ron replied to jmyakovich's topic in Motorcycles
Well I'm still here and no doubt Lex will be along sometime. He's in UK at the moment and will be at my house tomorrow. Any fake CAN be made to look original with enough effort. But the first thing to check would be the engine number. They were not matching numbers but were all prefixed XXE, which is unique to a Welbike. It's not easy to modify an XXA Autocycle engine number without destroying the raised cast in "No". The frame number is on the front of the headstock and is usually a light stamping (So as not to distort the tube). Underneath that is the inspectors acceptance stamp which includes a "crows foot" over an "M" and the inspectors number under that....... Ron- 39 replies

Coming on nicely Steve. It's good that Armours make the correct front pipe and fish tail now. When I bought mine, the fish tail was just some generic thing which I cut off and welded on a fish tail from an original civy silencer. The front pipe they offered at that time was the smaller diam MAF type without the foot rest joggle. So I took the whole bike to my tube guys with some factory pictures and they made my bespoke pipe. Brian Tillin makes exact replica brake rod assemblies in SS. Although last time I spoke to him, he was still waiting for a long awaited delivery of the rod. 07786 861697. Ron

It's usually a brass hexagonal post with a slot down one of the flats to push the wires in with a grub screw. (like on the light switch). But you could put a loop connector under that nut on yours. Ron
-
OK it's official! This picture is from a 3HW riders handbook and the other pictures are other period models. Two wires to the mag earth grub screw point. One from the battery and one from the regulator. Ron
-
Michal what do you mean by "magnet tape" ? Ron
-
Michal I'm waiting for conformation later. But I think the earth point for a 3HW was the brass terminal on the magneto. See here on a BSA. Ron
-
I think the normal place is at the stud and nuts that join the rear frame to the front frame under the saddle. I can't find a clear Triumph picture yet. But these Norton and Matchless pictures clearly show it. Ron

Ah Jenk, I wondered who bought it? We were bidding against each other...Doh! The seller was young Sam Jones (Yeomans) and I bought this one off his dad Steve some years ago. (Steve passed away a few months ago) Mine had a price ticket label tide on with a piece of string with 2/6 on it. Yours had the piece of string I think. I didn't know they had another one? This one is on my 3SW and Jan copied it and made an excellent repro for my 5SW.

You can probably make something by drilling three holes in a plate and tack welding three suitable size old bolts/screws as pegs. I'm away till Sunday with my WM20 to a small DR rally in Droitwich. Cheers Ron
