  1. Thanks, will have to wait and see, Cheers Baz
  2. OK, thanks i am going to try to keep the original engine, but it has been seized for many years, so not sure what i will find when i start looking. if not the spare engine will be used, do you know if they share any internal common parts? Baz
  3. try here http://www.mvdataplates.com/index.htm :-)
  4. Sweet, if i have any troubles with it i konw who to call :-D When you fitted one in the MW did you use the oil filter as on the later engine or change to the earlier one?
  5. I had a similar incident this year in normandy, driving along quite merrily in a Dodge 1/2 ton command car at about 40ish, when just in front of us a camper van reversed out of a side road that had a 12 foot brick wall either side, i did not see it until it was in my lane!!! somehow (pure luck) i managed to bring the ol' gal to rest about 6" from the drivers door!!!!, you can probably still see the skid marks! The elderly gentelmen driving and his PASSENGER!!!!!! were quite.... well..... how can i put it.....oblivious to whole ordeal!!! not sure of the driver actually saw me as i think his glasses were made of bullet proof glass! A few words of encouragement were called out before he pulled back into the side road to let me continue, he then reversed out blind again!!!! What can i say?
  6. Thats fair enough, to be honest from waht i know Richard has a lot going on at the momnent so this forum is probably not at the top of his list. my advice would be to be careful when it comes to rumours, especially as you mention maybe a slightly bias source.
  7. managed a bit more work on the ol gal, got the wings off, airfilter and steering wheel dug out the spare engine, can anyone tell me if this is 214 Cubic inch 28hp or is it the later 300Cui? it was prserved in 1977, the only difference i can see is the oil filter and inlet manifold. I have never worked on these bedford engines so really dont know much about them. Baz
  8. Currently sat in a Ford ET6, that the owner parked in the woods with a cool 1200 miles on the clock, he bought the truck for £17 just for the rear body.
  9. Finally got a good engine to go in the Bren, fired up for the first time in over 30 years and she's a peach :-D Before any moans, i tried to put it on HMVFTV but got the error code again Baz
  10. What are these supposed rumours then John? they must be real juicy as you keep on about them :-)
  11. Heres a couple of pics from Burma taken by my grandfather, Both RASC not RAF but it does show that the perfection we see today was probably not the case
  12. Blimey thats makes you pretty old!!! Hows the woody coming along? any pictures? Baz
  13. Now that is intresting, my grandad travelled to Burma via Mumbai and Calcutta then drove down to Rangoon bringing up the rear so to speak. He then spent most of 46 driving concert parties around Burma! the truck in the picture with the spitfire was his for a while, i think its a chevrolet? He spent a lot of his time driving dodge WC51's, nickmaned "coffin carriers!" as thats what they carried most of the time and two fitted in the back just right apparently. He also drove a lot of DUKWS around the water ways of Rangoon, unfortunaetly no pictures have turned up of these yet. He then went to Ceylon before returning to the UK.
  14. Dug out some of my grandads pictures from his time in Burma 1944-47 serving with the RASC as part of the 12th Army (even more forgotten than the 14th Army!) Picture were mostly taken in Rangoon, intresting array of vehicles and japanese officers surrendering in Rangoon. These pictures inspired the markings on my Jeep :-D
  15. Sweet, will look into it Thanks for the help so far folks :-D
  16. Bit of a long shot, looking to find out some info on where my Jeep was rebuilt back in the 60's The rebuilt plate has the following info FM Tarbuck Co Zweigniederlassung, Jnnbruck 15.2.1967 I guessing this is in Germany (not sure though!), but have not been able to find an exact match on the words, anybody got any ideas? anybody else got a similar rebuild plate? Baz
  17. Rebuild it, usually the best option, at least you knows it been done properly (especially if you do it yourself) I have seen so called recon engines with odd size bores :schocked:, timing out and even rattley bearing!! a Hotchkiss engine we recently used has suffered low oil pressure since fitting, it was supposadley brand new! next on the list to fix!!! i rebuilt my own jeep engine 6 years ago and have covered 12,000 trouble free miles since :-D, i even run it on straight unleaded and have not suffered any valve issues :-) Be careful of Ford blocks, i had one apart a while ago that had been completely rebuilt, had even welded all the external cracks, unfortunately they did not spot the internal crack, it lasted a couple of miles!!!! Baz
