  1. no problem at all. for parts i would highly recomend Tony Sudds. Baz
  2. be very careful with old heads, i had three old heads whilst rebuilding a jeep engine recently and they were all cracked. unless your really going for 100% accuracy a new Hotchkiss head is only £75. Baz
  3. Me too but a little out od reach at the moment :-(. In my last job i looked after about a dozen of them :tup:
  4. Couldn't agree more :tup:. Replace the front and rear main crank seals with modern rubber seals, they are 1000 times better than the originals. Baz
  5. Whip the head off and have a look(its the only sensible way), the very simple check is to see if there is a nasty ridge at the top end of the cylinder, if there is then it needs reboring (make sure its not just carbon build up though). whilsts the head is off it is welath worth checking the valves as they are quite prone to damage, bent valves and pitted seats. Get this all right before fitting the engine and it will last years trouble free. Mine has done over 12,000 miles without fault. I have had to pop the engine out this week due to the exhaust stud shearing off whilst driving!!! Baz
  6. Whats the problem with finding a box? i had no worries when i needed a new casing for mine, think i bought two cases in the end for £60. They often come up on Ebay. If your struggling to find and original box use a Hotchkiss box instead, they are the same size,look etc and go straight on. On the plus side they are slightly better than the original. I think Dallas Autos has some new Hotchkiss boxes, although that was a few months back. Baz
  7. Any owners of the above vehicles out there? if so and they would like an extremely hard to come by English copy of the operators/maintenance manual and parts list i can give them a copy in PDF on CD ;-) For the inquisitive they look like this;

  14. On the way back from Bordon on Sunday i noticed the exhaust was chuffing a touch . Had a quick look at the usual suspect "Flexi pipe", Nope not here! :-( Looked at the muffler, Nope not here! :-( check the manifold............OH POO! the stud right at the back is MIA :cry: So i whip the manifold off to see if it snapped or just wondered off...............................Its snapped off just inside the block :argh: :cry: To top it off the manifold is cracked in the usual place :argh: :banghead: :cry: :cry: :cry: And the flexi pipe snapped when i removed the down pipe from the manifold!!!!! 23. Dont think so... it was chopperised in the late 50's i believe. Before i picked it up it still had ape hangers :schocked: and tiny fuel/oil tanks!. I have the original log book with all the oweners up unitl 1967 when the last owner parked it up. Baz
