  1. I have seen lots of vehicles with bridging plates on the front and am looking to get a proper one for my Dodge has anybody got one for sale or could point me in the right direction to purchase one. Thanks Simon
  2. Very nice am especially jealous of the Triumph, and also welcome to another owner of a moto guzzi mine didnot have any unit markings on it, i will ask my friend in The Netherlands if he knows. Simon
  3. Sorry for my ignorance but what is the difference between the ml wheels used during the war and the one`s just after the war, as the one`s on the excelsior in my garage look very similar and the James wheel`s from the early fifties look the same it is hard to tell what the obvious difference`s are from just looking at photo's, there must be some. Simon
  4. In reply to the last question it has to be VOSA and not all of the test stations' can do it,it live in Leicester and the three closest to me where Birmingham and Derby and Peterborough obviously there are other one`s in other parts of the country and these can be located using there web site. Simon
  5. Just to clarify what I said earlier, it does state when you are registering a vehicle for the first time and when trying to get a reg number on a retention certificate that the DVLA retain the right to inspect the vehicle(though I believe that they rarely do so).The point about vehicle`s that were manufactured/registered before 1963 came from the e-mail response when I asked them why they needed to see the vehicle(which I don`t have a problem with) as it has been in the UK all it`s life and was registered on the computer and had a new V5c.I have received the letter today from them that very clearly states that "Due to the vehicle being registered/manufactured prior to 1963 an inspection is required before an application is authorised" and further down the letter is states "until an examination of the vehicle is carried out, I am unable to issue a V5c and you could experience difficulties when taxing your vehicle". I was not trying to get a V5c as I already have one, would it be possible for some one at the MVT who might have connections to the DVLA or VOSA to get clarity on this point. I have brought a motorcycle in from the Netherlands with a Dutch log Book and done the route described earlier and it went smoothly and fine but this was a 1980`s bike and I had never heard of the above until this week. Simon
  6. I am in the process of trying to retain a number plate on a retention cert,i have the V5c and mot and tax disc and insurance for the vehicle,i sent all the paperwork to Swansea and i have been told by them i have to take it for a Vehicle Identification Check as the rules now state that anybody trying to register or do what i am on a pre 1963 vehicle will have to have this done, this can only be done at the VOSA test centre, but not all of them do this. Simon
  7. I can only offer advice on my experience, I purchased a second hand motorcycle from the Netherlands from a private individual that was already registered in The Netherlands so had a Dutch registration document and he gave me a receipt to prove I had paid for it.On arriving back in the UK customs did not want to know and after looking in the back of the van waved me through. They never mentioned the NOVA process which I found out about when I tried to register it.I filled in the nova paperwork on line which said I owed nothing and then registration was the same as normal. This was before it was transferred to Swansea. So apart from the purchase price and the transport costs this did not cost me anything else. Hope this helps Simon
  8. We visited the year before last and had an enjoyable day wandering around there vwere items/vehicles that i had never seen over here,i am sure you will enjoy yourself.
  9. I now have a wiring diagram and it all makes sense now, It was the optional extra of the parking light that was confusing me as I did not know they had such a thing as I have never had a bike this old and never expected there would be a 3v dry cell battery wired into the lights. You live and learn.
  10. Hi, it was showing in the red as it`s a gauge with red/yellow/green then red as the original one broke and this was the closest replacement I could get. Thanks Simon
  11. Hi, I am sorting out the above bike and it`s mostly done, the bit I am struggling with is the wiring in the headlamp as most of it is missing, I can work the head light out but the switch is a bit confusing ,I have never worked on a bike this old before, so does anybody have a wiring diagram or can tell me which wires go into which bits on the switch, the switch looks like the standard lucas one with just off and high and low(and in the headlight as per the flying flea and most bikes of this age. Thanks Simon
  12. Hi, if you contact the MVT through there web site they can arrange a dating letter that the DVlA will accept as proof of age, they will arrange for some one to come and look at the bike and then send you proof, there is a charge for this, once you have this you will need an mot and insurance and the correct form from the DVLA that you can order this of there web site and they will post this to you. Once you have all the paperwork you post to Swansea with the fee and they will send you a new mot and log book and tax disc. Hope this helps Simon
  13. Just a thought I would guess it`s a carb problem to, how long have you had the petrol in the tank after a lay up my MT350 would start but not pull very well till you got it revving high, drained the carb and tank and put fresh in and away it went. Hope yours is that simple. Simon
  14. Thanks I did disconnect the batteries before I took the top off. I just wanted to make sure that everything was ok before I put a new coil in(as 24 volt one`s are not cheap),I didn`t want to fit a coil and have the same problem again. I will take your advice and leave well alone. Thanks again Simon
  15. The reason I checked the voltage I was worried that to many volts would damage the coil, as many of the replies I got about it cutting out was it might be the coil packing up when hot. I was hoping to get it sorted before the winter run and possibly go on that(thought it might be a bit cold on the bike). Simon
  16. While checking over the dodge to get it to run better I have checked the voltage going to the batteries(it`s 24 volts),It was about 35 volts so I had a look in the regulator and cleaned all the contact`s, there`s now 32 volts coming in, the book says there should be 30 but doesn't tell you how to alter it.Inside there are 3 set`s of contacts, one set is open when off but then permanently closed, the middle set clicks on and off and the third set doesn't appear to move?. There are little adjusting wheels on the spring`s but did not want to move anything. Should it be adjustable and if so do you alter the tension? And should the third set move?. Thanks simon

Very nice I would love one in my collection.
  18. It probably was I did not want to say where I was but I am in the area tomorrow morning and will have a look to see if anybody's about, if it is yours it looks very nice and so does the 6 wheeler, do you live that side of Leicestershire as I live in Glenfield. Simon
  19. Thanks to both of you for replying I will now order one and see if that helps. Thanks Simon
  20. This is probably a really dumb question, but it has been recommended that I change the condenser in my distributer to see if that would cure the intermittent fault, I have found some one supplying the right size and he say`s it will do 6 and 12 and 24 volts system`s are condenser`s not volt sensitive?. I have asked my friends and no one is sure so thought I would try on here and hope that some one does. Thanks Simon
  21. Hi, welcome aboard it`s amazing how many people have stuff in and around Leicestershire, While I was out at work the other day saw parked up a nice looking green goddess with a very tidy looking 6 wheel dodge hiding behind it and a couple of trailers. You just need to pay attention to what`s around you
  22. Hi, I was wondering if anybody knew of storage space in Leicester or close by, as the barn my dodge normally goes in has become unavailable, as long as it`s inside and dry I am not to fussy(it would be great if there was room to get to it as there are a few things I need to do but not essential).I would be more than happy to share and split the cost. Any ideas/leads most welcome. Thanks Simon
  23. Welcome to the forum and please pop along to your local MVT meeting(if you want to)we are a friendly bunch it`s just up the road from you in Sywell. Simon
  24. Hi, looking for suggestions(ideas) on the way to war and peace the dodge got very hot and boiled over, managed to get home with no problems as was a lot cooler. I have had the radiator re cored and new pump and hoses etc. It doesn't over heat now but cuts out after 20-30 miles as if it`s run out of petrol and if you leave it for a bit will re start and run fine for some more miles. I have cleaned and checked the fuel lines and the pump is working ok and have checked everything else I can think off. It will sit on the drive ticking over for hours(doesn't over heat and sounds fine).Any suggestions would be most helpful. The only think I have not checked is the timing as I cannot work out how to attach my strobe to the shielded plug leads on looking on American sites there appears to be a special adaptor. it runs 24v ignition etc. Thanks Simon
  25. Thanks to everybody who organised the show, we both had a great time the vehicles were stunning and it was nice to see them being driven. The hanger dance was very good and the group were excellent, I hope you do it next year as we will definitely come again. If the dodge behaves herself I will try and come in that. Thanks Simon
