  1. The reason, I think is hotter plugs are better when pottering around as there is not so much heat build up in the cylinders and there is more chance of a bit of oil getting in there, where on a dual carridgeway the engine is under a constant load and high revs for some time so using hotter plugs can cause hot spots on the pistons and at worst case melt a hole in the piston :shake: I could be wrong so please put me in my place..........
  2. I have got one and have used it quite a bit but is limited to 1.5mm ish and the pins do go blunt, also bit slow. If you want to cut up to about 4mm thick get the Machine Mart Plasma King plasma cutter I have the 25 and wish I bought it years ago. You need a min of 30Amp supply for it and a fairly hefty compressor 14cfm min but if you have all that and can afford one you will use it all the time, I do, you can cut mild steel, stainless and ally. The best thing about it is it will punch through in the middle of a sheet and then you can cut what ever shape you want. :-o In my opinion its the best thing since a mig welder !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Yes it has sorted out the wheel wobbbbbblllleee fine, still need to do the steering tie bar bushes and pins between the two wheels and that will conclude the steering sarga, might check the king pin drag and steering box this winter and poss take the shims down a bit more but we shall see. Next jobs all prop U.J. joints and check pillow block, a rear torque rod, engine crank inspect and sort out ignition timing.
  4. So with that in mind then if say the truck gets runs on dual carridgeways would be good to go for say j7 ?
  5. Try this they are still going !!!!!!! http://www.trewhella.co.uk
  6. From the info I was given by the person who is organising it, if it is well attended and popular it sounds as though he is interested in doing more, would be good to support this first event just to encourage it to get going again. I will be speaking to the organisier about a week before it is happening just to confirm it is going ahead, dealing with the MOD is all official lots of crossing tees and doting I's ect. So get prepared just incase it is all go for that day......... So as soon as I know what is going on I will post it here.
  7. I have just got off the phone to the person who is arranging this event, he is at the moment in disscussion with the MOD about the finer points, he did mention that the MOD would probably be on site with some recovery equipment as well, he said that it would be best to ring about a week before the event to confirm if it is going ahead, so I will give him a ring nearer the time and then post the outcome here.........................
  8. Nick I have copied the forum bits from the S.O.E. Forum so here is all I know. Posted: Wednesday October 3rd, 2007 19:48 Hi all, The AWDC are planning to run a Heavies Trial, on the 11th of November. at Slab Common in Bordon Hampshire. These events used to be run many years ago and the plan is to get all the old heavy kit out playing. If anyone wants to take there toy for a bit of friendly competition and a real good days fun. I compete in my Land Rover 90. along with a post war jeep. Best beat is to look at the AWDC web site and contact the organisers as thay will be able to tell you more. Bryan Hi Bryan, I have just looked at the AWDC site and it only says it is a Trial RTV ect no reference to a Heavy's event, where did you get your info from. 11. Well what can I say :dunno: They could not even find any bling bling alloy 20 inch wheels or what ever is the in thing at the moment  About the same as the white streached 432 at Beltring a couple of years ago............... So whats with the roll cage inside ? the body panels are different on the sides and front, Oh probably fiberglass :schocked:
  12. Ahhh ok I am going to stop trying then, after all the head banging I'm going to have a beer in the garden, damm computers :computerterror2:

  17. Sorry Joris, it was 4 days of working all hours gods sends to strip down a 1 1/2 ton Chevy and take off some bits and put back on some other bits, did not get time to do anything else, might catch up with you another time.. See you soon. R Cubed
  18. This sounds interesting can anyone give dates of this so I can pen in dates to have off at work...Will bring all my green bits
  19. Hmmmmm I do have a 352 GMC but with all the green bits I have been buying I might have to get a 353  I did order the option pack with the tents, a box of squaddies to put it up :-D Next year will tell see what happens...
  20. Hi all, back from Holland with my tents :shake: :shake: Now I have a green tent to go with all the other green stuff like my truck, generator and party size cooker.................. Got round to putting them up yesterday in the garden, now bearing in mind these are US type G.P. Medium ridge tents 16' x 32' ( any one who was at Bolero this was the the main assembly tent, yes the big green one !!!! ) Well I bought 2 as I was told the best one was badly ripped and I could use the worst one to use as patches, so as the person was selling 2 I bought 2, errrr the sort of offer that is too good to be true. So yesterday draged out what seemed to be enough canvas to cover a football pitch and started putting it up, after about 40mins of heaving and pulling we had it in a sort of up position and yes there was a bigish rip in the roof about 4"X4" so not bad I thought. Packed that away and did the same with the other, thinking that this was going to be rearly ripped to bits, well it seems that this one was even better than the first one, no rips at all will have to try them out to see if they leak, time will tell, so it now looks like I have 2 G.P. Medium tents so maybe one for sleeping in and one for cooking and living in, who knows might even keep the truck in it ;-)
  21. I don't think super glue will help that, you might do better with U.S. military spec supper dooper glue  Sorry to see that :shake: hope you don't find any more horrors, good luck with the build..
  22. Been playing with it, I mean my gas cooker not anything else  When I open one of the other 4 rings the front centre one goes out ? also the vane thing does not control the centre burner only but controls all the rings as well, why is this on all the time ? seems a bit silly if you need to use a ring :dunno: but it allows for blue hot flames or yellow wimpy flames, just like the old bunsen burners at school More info on how to opperate it would be nice please.
  23. Ah but also to add to that, is that Real men dont care what the weather is like rain or snow ect, If I needed to go out in my truck I would go ;-)
  24. I have found out that you can NOT use matches to light this :shake: :shake: my fingers got quite hot  I still have my eyebrows though so must be doing something right.
  25. The central valve controls the gas flow from off to max, I have figured this bit out, the little screw at 2 o'clock is a gear to shut or open the air vane. You are right about the fuel air mix this is done before the gas rings !!
