  1. To the above list should be added Great Missenden Depot, Buckinghamshire in May 1946.
  2. Having just obtained a copy of the Central Census of "B" Vehicle W.D. Numbers I wondered what the notation "Impressed" actually refers to? Did it cover those civilian vehicles which passed to the military or to vehicles previously operated by the RASC? Are there lists available showing details of such vehicles and if so could you point me in the right direction please so I can obtain them?
  3. There is only one expert and that's Ted. From the Cromwell cork helmets that are being worn I would say this was the 1950s or 1960s. It looks to be somewhere hot, Kenya perhaps.
  4. I wonder if anyone can offer any advice on the information inscribed on this headstone? Clearly an artillery piece appears at the top whilst further down there is No. 163872 which presumably relates to a service number. Underneath again is the word Bombardier. My question is, were there women with the rank of Bombardier in the Royal Artillery, probably in WWII going by her date of birth? There again she was born in South Africa so maybe she was with the South African forces but the same question could still be asked.
  5. Initially the TAC-T trailers ran with the vehicles reg as it was never envisaged they would be seperated in use. However on units such as the Germany Harrier Force trailers could be swapped to overcome shortfalls in the fleet. e.g. a trailer from one is off the road and a prime mover from another. If a trailer was simply swapped its maintenance etc history would be lost as it was recorded against the prime mover. The desicion was made to give trailers got their own reg numbers; this was after a few months in service. Thanks Ted
  6. When I saw it at Welland in July the Land Rover was carrying a 27 AG 46 plate whilst the trailer had a 65 AW 26 plate. Would this be normal for the trailer to have its own registration?
  7. Probably the simplest way, just throw the netting over the vehicle. At least I presume there is a vehicle under there somewhere!
  8. Originally a Fire Tender for the Army Fire Service.
  9. In November 1921 the RASC were disposing of vehicles in Ireland. If I can manage to attach the file these are listed. The reference in the 1st column will probably be the registration number whilst those in the 3rd. column presumably will be chassis numbers. I hope this will be of use to someone. RASC Vehicles Ireland 1921.doc
  10. Looking at the gallery page on their website they also appear to have Q105 XAK which comes back as a Reo M35.
  11. Saw this Austin Loadstar K4 recently. It is ex Army and was purchased by the Great Train Robbers and used for carrying the mailsacks from the train to their hideout at Leatherslade Farm. It is currently at the Cai Dai Museum at Denbigh but has suffered from an arson attack on the building in which it was kept.
  12. The first photograph appears to have the registration number Q319 GVU which shows on a registration site as a Reo.
  13. Excellent. I have a kit of Monty's caravan still in its box, I can seen a conversion coming on. Do you work from scale drawings?
  14. While I was down at Plymouth at the weekend attending a wedding I saw these. F231 HMS Argyll A110 RFA Orangeleaf F236 HMS Montrose
  15. In a word ... Yes Your camera may very well have come with a disc including a programme which is able to re-size your photographs otherwise you will have to use one of the programmes suggested by others.
  16. This took place on the 25th/26th June at Kelsall in Cheshire. Not a lot military wise unfortunately.
  17. Yes a FMW Tug, previous registration was 90 RN 82.
  18. The Welland Steam Rally was held at the end of July and produced a good selection of military vehicles.
  19. I think perhaps the attachment facility is now working. Well done to all concerned. John
  20. Besides Kirmington and Bordon the Ministry of Supply were selling vehicles in 1947 from - Royal Ordnance Factory, Kempston Hardwick, Elstow, Near Bedford. Storage Depot, Mount Farm Aerodrome, Dorchester, Oxfordshire. Storage Depot, Ripple Road, Barking, Essex. Storage Depot, Byram Hall, Near Pontefract, Yorkshire. Storage Depot, Winterslow, Near Salisbury. I think these were a mixture of military and civilian registered vehicles.
