  1. Royal Air Force vehicle sales from the Storage Depot at Elstow for 1950 are attached. Dusty xElstow Earlier RAF 1950.doc
  2. I have a book which lists the date a registration mark was first issued. It states that HYV began in January 1947 and HYT in July 1947. Wally states that the sale took place in March 1946 so quite sometime before these two vehicles should have been registered. Wikipedia states that Zundapp produced more than 18,000 of their KS 750 model for the German Wehrmacht during the war. This was a sidecar outfit with a driven side wheel and a locking differential, so well worth while bringing one back to be evaluated I would think. Dusty
  3. It wasn't just military vehicles that went through these auctions so it could relate to a civilian registration mark, Inverness C. C. in this case. Dusty
  4. The only Morris Gun Tractors sold through Elstow Storage Depot in 1947 were - 1700457 Morris Gun Tractor 4x4 30th. June 1947 1731946 Morris Gun Tractor 4x4 30th. June 1947 4549917 Morris Quad Gun Tractor 30cwt 4x4 5th. November 1947 Dusty
  5. Brilliant Wally. I never realised vehicles were sold off from Trafford Park, I thought everything went through Slough. Presumably those with civilian registrations had been commandeered by the military? Dusty
  6. Royal Air Force and Royal Navy vehicle sales from the Storage Depot at Elstow for the first nine months of 1949 are attached. Sales are now starting to pick up. Dusty xElstow RAF and RN 1949.doc
  7. Thanks Wally. Presumably this is from a Ruddington sale, what was the date please? Dusty
  8. I agree Wally, these sales catalogues are a valuable resource. Pity so few of them seem to have survived. Dusty
  9. Details of vehicles sold by auction from Elstow Storage Depot in 1948. Again not many from this location in this year.xElstow RAF & RN 1948.doc
  10. Thanks for the latest pages Wally Dusty
  11. Thanks Wally, you're doing a great job. Unfortunately I can remember guineas! Dusty
  12. Wikipedia suggests that only 2,500 were built between 1916 and 1952 so a rarity in its own right. I'm guessing this was a one-off for the Royal Navy? Dusty
  13. List of RAF and RN motor vehicles sold by auction from Elstow Storage Depot in 1947. Not many in this year, perhaps they were selling more from other locations. Dusty xElstow RAF & RN 1947.doc
  14. Ted. Thanks for the explanation of the vehicle types mainly used by the RAF, explicit as always. As for the reason Middlesex registrations were used pre-war in the 1930s was more to do with the location of the county I think than for any other reason. The county covered a large area of the south west and west of what most of us think of as London and when the Greater London Council was formed in 1965 virtually all of Middlesex became part of the new council. The administrative headquarters of Middlesex County Council in the 1930s was at Middlesex Guildhall in Parliament Square, now the home of the Supreme Court, so it was handily placed for government Ministries to pop along and register new vehicles. And yes I would welcome seeing more of the auction catalogues if Wally can obligue. Dusty
  15. I suppose by cross referencing Wally's lists against the "Allocation by Central Census of W.D. Numbers" book you could discover the army vehicles. The Royal Navy ones are easily found so by elimination those that are left must be RAF, or is this too simplistic? Also Ted, how do you know that it is a RAF vehicle when it carries a Middlesex C.C. reg. plate? Did the RAF have a block/s allocated just to them? Dusty
  16. Thanks for showing us these Wally. These old sales catalogues are as rare as hen's teeth. Is the whole folder full of sales catalogues? I would love to see more if possible. Dusty

  18. Ted, there are some Government registrations in the Gxx series. I shall type them up and email them direct to you. Dusty

    Font colour

Is there any possibility of changing the lime green font colour which appears on various pages on the site. I have great difficulty in reading these, the letters merge in with the background and are not clear. Dusty
  20. I recently had sight of a Ministry of Supply catalogue of the auction of motor vehicles from Elstow Storage Depot in 1949. I have extracted the R.A.F and Royal Navy vehicle details and attach these. Hope this is of some use to someone. Dusty Elstow 21st. November 1949.doc
  21. Not really a show report as such, but last week the Severn Valley Railway held their annual 1940's Weekend. Those participants that I saw at various locations are attached.
  22. I see that no records of RAF motorcycles in WW2 seem to exist so these few that were sold by auction in the late 1940s might be of interest - RAF 5329 Ariel Combination 350cc RAF 14541 Norton Solo 500cc RAF 25383 B.S.A.
